There's no reason for the leafs to retain salary in a Muzzin trade anyways. You can keep your 3rd round pick.

This one I struggled with. This is the type of return that TOR needs in a Nylander deal, and I really just covet Sillinger. I think next years pick will be 10-20 for CLB, so it wouldn't be that high. Nylander is actually a natural center, and I think he and Laine could have some good chemisty, but I could completely see CLB declining this offer.

Muzzin needs to be retained in a trade. He's no longer top 6 on the Leafs IMO, and they need cap space.

That being said, he's an excellent veteran and leadership option for the Wings and is a big upgrade on outgoing contracts like Dekeyser and Stall, and can help along some of the younger guys. He could be a nice addition for 2 years to the DET D, helping along both Seider (who seems to be doing just fine on his own), and the incoming Edvinsson, Sebrango and possibly McIsaac

Maybe this season he hasn't been a top 6 d but last season he was a legit top pairing d. I find it hard to believe that in one season he could fall that hard. I think he'll bounce back to some extent.

If I remember correctly Toronto tried Nylander at center in a specific game 5 and that line did not do too well. I think he was scouted as a center but never got the proper training.
The pick isn’t my biggest concern. As I’d rather bank on sillinger becoming a cerelli type center who’s great in both ends (which he already is pretty good in the dzone). Than rely on nylander doing better than voracek in a playmaking role on the wing. (While keeping Jake as well). Doesn’t seem like the right time and place for this trade for the jackets.

I bet you like as a Leaf fan. Tell me what is Muzzin's motivation to waive his NTC for the Wings. Rebuilding CBJ don't want to give up that for two years of Nylander. Silinger has been so good, CBJ wouldn't even trade Sillinger for Nylander straight up. Buffalo certainly doesn't do that Mrzarek deal. Kinda crazy to go with 21 man roster, no 7th Dman and lots of cap.
