This is a weak draft, I wouldn't be surprised HABS trade down

2 things:

1- We're the Devils not the Rangers.
2- I'm sure for a 5th overall pick we could get better than a player made of glass and Guhle.

This draft is widely seen as one of the deepest in years…but ok

I'm not being sarcastic, is it supposed to be a good draft?

Ahh yes, exactly the impact players the devils were looking for… Jonathan drouin and an unproven (albeit good) prospect.

In my opinion, this just isn’t enough for them to move their first.

Yes, it is. At least in terms of depth. The talent drops off significantly after top 15 or so, but it’s still very deep

I agree, you probably could, I tried to offer the best prospect outside of Caufield. In the end a draft pick is a bag of magic beans. You get good ones and bad ones.

Look at all the top picks still trying to crack the NHL, Glass, Byfiled, Kakko etc. Then you have the stars, Zegras, Makar etc.

This draft may be a weaker draft compared to next year, but the top 6 or so look really nice, then there’s about 5-10 more who could be studs… some nice players projected to go round 2 as well.

All this makes me more and more livid my GM gave up pick 36 to move a very manageable cap hit from a D putting up like 50 points… sorry, got a bit off track lol

Yes they look nice but they are not Top 5 picks in a typical draft.

Wright will probably end up like a Sean Monahan, A top 10 pick type player at best. My opinion

There is NO player that will enter the NHL and dominate from this draft

Next year you have 2 at least (Bedard & Michkov)

Logan Cooley and David Jiricek could easily be franchise level.

Last time i checked, there’s more than 2 selections in the draft
Just bc no one is being labeled as “generational” doesn’t mean it’s a weak draft overall

And there’s no chance that would even be close to getting the Devils’ top5 pick
Supposedly they’re looking for a good young player or top prospect to do so, and you’re offering neither

1. The package is enough to land the 5th OVA pick (value wise) the problem is is is not what the Devils would be interested in.

2. @devil you can't be serious can you?! Caufield for 5th over all would be like the Habs saying we want Jack Hughes for 3rd OVA. And when in the history of the draft has ANY team ever paid a top 3 pick + another prospect with 1st round value + a roster player worth a 2nd or 3rd (half retained) to move down in the draft? Like get serious man!

I get that Devils fans are not happy with all the trades proposed for 5th OVA but at least this one has the value, even if it does not meet the needs of the Devils.

Guhle is a top prospect, he is already NHL ready and by most accounts his floor is a 2nd pairing D man. Kind of think that is worthy of a top 5 pick. That being said I don't know whether the Devils are looking for RHD or LHD lol.

If the Devils are looking for a Top 5 prospect for their pick then it tells you that they don't believe those players are Top 5 Quality. No one will trade a Top 5 proven prospect for a bag of magic beans.

They will be NHL players but definetly not Franchise Payers

Franchise Players are, Crosby Malkin, McDavid, Draitsaitl, McKinnon etc. (None of the players in this Draft meet that criteria)

They literally have not played a single game in the league how can you possibly say that lmao

That’s also an incredibly restrictive definition of “franchise player” and is much closer to “generational”

How can you say they are Franchise players when they haven't played an NHL game.

I have seen some of the games involving these players and the player that stands out to what I've seen the most is Mathieu Savoie and he is not a Franchise Player

Again it is my opinion. Maybe one of these guys will prove me wrong.

I didn’t call them franchise level. I said they easily /could/ be as they’re both insanely talented.

That wasn't a trade down scenario. NYI traded for Yashin (an established player) by giving up Chara, 1st and a prospect. They did not trade the 1st + Chara + prospect for a later 1st. Which is what you suggested we do.

In the 2012 Draft we had players of the same caliber with insane talent but were or are NHL players (and some even scored 30 goals in a season). That year the best players were defencemen.

I believe this draft is similar to that of 2012, 2017 or 2018 draft. Some good NHL players
