Finally a decent offer for Petry. The offers here have been embarrassingly bad. 3rd round picks, etc when Risto went for a 1st last Summer.

If Evans can get decent value from a contender, he might also be a trade candidate. Unless, Poehling moves to the wing then there isnt much room for him with Wright coming into the fold.

It would be a “maybe” from the Sabres imo

I think we like Routsalainen, but he’s caught in a bit of a numbers game here with all the other young talent we have

And with Armia, i just don’t know that we’d want him back?
*Sabres drafted him if u weren’t aware
He could be a fit on a defensive line for us moving forward,
but if we decide to keep Okposo &/or Girgensons after next season, then we wouldn’t really have room for him

And i do think there’s a strong possibility that Okposo AND Girgensons get extended
They both play well defensively & wear letters for us for a reason
With so much young talent coming in, it’s entirely reasonable we’d wanna keep their Vet leadership around a bit longer

With all things considered,
I’d say the trade is possible, but unlikely

The 12th the pick for the 29th, there is little separation in this class. You probably think its the 6th pick from Chicago

1 GMs bad decision on Risto isn’t gonna necessarily dictate what u guys get for Petry

Agreed but Petry is far better than Risto and they are not trading him for a 3rd rounder. This deal would be the minimum ask

Then they keep him. And with all the interest from dallas and philly when he was struggling. I really doubt they dont at least get a 1st rounder.

He's a top4 RHD PM. He played fantastic under St louis once he got his regular d partner back in Edmundson. His value will only go up. His skating is still great and puck moving dmen with speed dont wear down like the rumble and tumble guys like a Weber

We’ll see
He’s also older, and that will affect his value negatively
Not many teams will be looking to acquire a 35 year old defenseman
Let alone one who has 3yrs left on his contract
Especially at a Cap # over $6mil

Petry will not bring back a 1st. His age immediately throws up red flags. Plus, he wants out. Montreal doesn’t have leverage. Leverage is vital in a deal. Best they get for him is a 2nd

Armia costs too much and is signed for too long, Buffalo doesn’t have a need or use for him. Montreal is not likely to retain on the trade, because that defeats the purpose of bothering. Buffalo isn’t eating a multi year cap dump.

No shot the CBJ give any first round pick for Petry. We've got two shutdown guys in Peeke and Gavrikov. You'd have to give us a 1st and 3rd to take on his terrible, 34yo contract. here's a 4th round pick in return.

Petry does get a lot of crap that he doesn't deserve. He really is a legit top-4 guy. But he also has zero chance of actually fitting our build timeline, and we've got plans for those picks. No deal.

Delusional if you think he's a cap dump. Just cause he doesnt fit Columbus (debatable) doesnt make him worthless, thats some serious bias. Philly and Dallas have already shown interest so for you to ignore that, makes your opinion worthless

I dont get why ppl cant comment like this. Its always the extreme, oh he sucks and worthless! And there's no middle ground for discussion.

This is exactly right.

Petry may not fit a lot of timelines but there are 30 other teams and already 2 teams with legit interest. And, this was while Petry was struggling before Edmundson returned. If you ignore the reality of the situation and only come with homer bias then that person is a waste of time and energy

No I know it’s 12 and I still wouldn’t do that deal. He is too expensive and too old for a team like Columbus to give up a 1st for. Maybe a cup contender at the deadline with cap retained but certainly not Columbus .
