Mayfield is worth a lot more than Barrie tho

Oilers giving up too much for Georgiev, the 3rd is enough and they dont have draft picks to spare atm, your ACGM leaves them with only 3 picks the next 3 years in rounds 2-4, they need those as trade bait at worst in a contention window as McDrai contracts end around 2025-26

I would’ve said yes to the 3rd by itself

A buyout for Kassian is $667k next season. I wouldn't retain on a trade, just rather buy him out. And Klefbom, unfortunately, looks to be on LTIR next season. I don't think he returns, I think he's in LTIRetirement.

Oh, and just saw the Kuzmenko signing. He's going to be a one year ELC, 925k, FA one year after signing.

The no pie in the sky means letting go of players they cant afford. Kane isnt resigning, Yamo or Pool Party, someone has to go! Barrie or Kassian need to be bought out.

Just far too much chaos here. They should be acquiring picks in a deal for Pool Party so they can be cap compliant then use said picks to buy at the TDL. That is what will work on a fundamental level

doesn’t make sense for the isles to take on more money for a guy to replace the same role mayfield already has as 3RD. they need to invest that money on the left side

Same goes for the Oilers. Keith as 2nd pair simply doesnt work. Moving someone like Barrie would open up the money to sign Kulak to give the left side some mobility. Nurse was really limited this past playoff and we still dont trust Broberg.

Detroit doesn't have a roster spot for Kassian and we're not sending him to Grand Rapids for two years for only a 4th round pick. Buy him out instead.

That's the most likely solution, indeed

I agree Detroit is going to have a ton of cap space so retaining salary on Kassian will make it less likely to happen they would want more or a better return instead of retention.

Why are ppl signing Mcleod for so much $$. Yes the dude is a great player and developing well, but he is a RFA and does not have arb rights, there is no reason to give him more than 3x$1mill at this point. Unless he was willing to sign for 8 yrs at that price there is no reason for it.

I'm going to have to disagree the definition for pie in the sky is something that is pleasant to contemplate but is very unlikely to be realized.
Example "don't throw away a decent offer in pursuit of pie in the sky"

Hardly a ridiculous trade offer - Barrie is on a reasonable contract for the amount of offensive production he produces. I understand Mayfield is more defensive but to say this trade is lopsided is severely misguided.

    Mayfield - 3rd Pair D
    2020-21 New York Islanders NHL 56 2 13 15 38 2
    2021-22 New York Islanders NHL 61 3 15 18 55 -5

    Barrie - 3rd Pair D

That's terrible for Kassian....a 4th round pick? We aren'T going to make trades just to help out other teams. You want us to take Kassian, tag along your 1st, otherwise buy him out, or keep him around and suffer with the cap hit.

You're basically asking Detroit to take a retained cap dump off your hands for nothing

I think i know what all these numbers are but lets see, points. Barries going to put up more points. Hes a muvh more offense focused dman playing with mcdavid and draisaitl. Also barrie played 1st pair last year so saying he plays 3rd pair is false. Penalty minutes. What a stupid stat to write. Its a completely useless stat. And +/-. The worst stat in the history of stats. How about the fact that barrie makes 4.5 for 2 more years and mafield makes 1.5 for 1 year. A 4.5m 3rd pair d is a massive overpay for the position. Not to mention guts like mayfield get 1sts at the TDL while no comparable to barrie got close to a 1st.
