The pile of scraps leaf fans claim is good value, and a late first doesn’t get you Comtois retained, especially in a weak draft like this one. And obviously doesn’t get you on the phone for Gibson

Why would Gibson have 'good value'?

Gibson is a huge risk. I know Anaheim will want the sun and moon for him but I'd be pretty hesitant if I were Dubas.

St Louis trade I don't love considering Barbashev is a UFA in a year. I think if you're moving Sandin you're wanting to make more of a splash than that.

Why do the Ducks trade him for anything less than a huge overpay?

Selling low on him makes no sense when we don’t have another capable starter

Actually that's exactly what bottom 3 D go for. Dermott, Harmonic - look at this year's trades. Holl is likely better in a different role or in a different system - but he is an NHL D, can eat minutes and play the PK. And if he plays better in a different system he can be flipped for a bit more or the same.

the trade are a mess but i will leave that out.

the UFA signings are ridiculous numbers, did you pull them out of a hat? firstly christian fischer is an RFA, his QO is 1.1m so minimum he makes that. danton heinen put up 18 goals. hes probably a chunk more than 1.5m in arbitration. subban never signs for 750k or for 2 years, if he takes a small AAV it will be a show me deal to get paid next year. same with phill, 1 he wont go back to toronto, 2 he will make atleast 5x as much as that, imagine thinking a consistent 50-60 point player will take league min for 2 years. holtby is prob in the 2.25m starting range.

in total for your signings your atleast 5m cap short of where you should be.

The Blues might go for that, or they may want to haggle a piece. Not sure.

Because people who know something about hockey think so.

I could see the Jackets sending Tampa's third rounder over as it's pretty much a fourth at this point. However Holl has a M-NTC that probably has Columbus as a no-go.

I also don't think Jarmo wants to drop his third rounder this year to pick up a guy on the wrong side of 30 without seeing what he has in Bean/Blankenburg/Christiansen/Carlsson in training camp. There are too many young bottom pairing guys on that team + if Jiricek or Nemec fall to 6 in this draft, there's probably no place for a guy like Holl and his M-NTC.

Because he wants out, because he's bad cap space with the way he's playing and because the longer they wait, the less he will be worth. He isn't far off from being a negative asset already.

He doesn’t want out his agent came out immediately after the fake report came out and said it wasn’t true, the Ducks need his contract to get to the cap floor, he won’t be negative value at all, worst case he’s an expensive back up for Dotsal towards the end of the deal while Dotsal will be cheap

I’m not disagreeing with the general value. Columbus just doesn’t have a need for him. They need a top pairing dman. They have plenty of bottom pair guys that they like already, and could even be looking to move out one of their own.
