They'd maybe add a 3rd or a mid level forward prospect, I guess.

doubt it 25 goal scorer for a 2nd Pairing defenseman isn't exactly one sided.

The last thing the Blues need is another LHD defensemen under 5’9”…

grzelcyk has been a 2nd pair dman for about 3 seasons now, this was barbashev's 1st time scoring over 30 points this is definitely a one sided deal. im not saying blues need to add a lot but their needs to be more value as barbashev isn't no top line driver or anything he is just a good complimentary/3rd option on the line forward.

i just think his fit with hall and pasta would be good as they both generate a lot of rebounds and most the goals barbashev scores are those greasy rebounds in the dirty areas.

That's what happens when you get an injury that ended your season such as Barbashev. He showed this same skill set the year before it just ended early. Same with the year before only playing in 69 games. He would've hit 30 if he played a full season, but Covid. So your narrative isn't exactly fair to him. The other big ticket is that Grz has 2 years left on his deal, I don't see the security in doing such a thing. Where as an extension could be processed apart of the deal for Barbashev. He's also not as expensive. On market that's a bit different. Barbashev could bring somebody else in Grz isn't the end all be all so if it doesn't work it doesn't work. If it really is that one sided then I don't think Blues discuss. It's not a must to trade Barbashev. He fits in comfortably this year, and without a doubt if you don't take the chance at getting him and putting him with some of your big names in the middle of the lineup. I'm betting someone else will for something close in comparison.

i think you are thinking a little to high on barbashev, also that whole security thing makes no sense, atleast you get 2 guaranteed years of Grz, barbashev can just play out the year and leave since he is a UFA.

also Barbashev most likely gets 4+ on his new extension so Grz will be cheaper afterwards and how often do you get top 4 dmen for the contract he is on.

you also are blowing my comment out of proportion i didn't say it was overly one sided i just said blues need to add a 3rd or one of
Klim Kostin
Tanner Dickinson
Nikita Alexandrov
Dylan Peterson

Barbashev doesn't make 4+ he's probably in the 3-3.5 range which that extension can be put in the trade which is to beef up the value coming back. Basically what comes to terms. Grz is not in that same position he could be a 2 year rental and up and leave. Which is the different between the 2. Klim Kostin is a NHL roster player. Dickinson probably around middle 6/top 6 Alexandrov might be middle 6 I'm not quite sure yet on that and Peterson is probably the best of the bunch. I don't see how you can fully feel that 2 players that are comparable on the market makes you feel that you need an extra Top 6 to Middle 6 forward Prospect worth gap between them. You might get somewhere between 4th-6th, but the gap you believe is there really quite isn't. Blues would be putting too much in the pot on this one if you feel there is that much of a gap between the 2.

there is little to no consistency with barbashev out side of what 70 games of hockey, he did nothing in PO's and ended up on the 4th line by the end. his advanced analytics were terrible the season before this one so idk what you are talking about how he had consistency like at the expansion draft JFRESH posts hockey cards with updates how the player plays and Barbashev was bottom 40% of the league in everything except for A1/p60 and Finishing his defence was at 7% and he had a WAR of 19% so yes ill give him credit he played good this year but he also had very good linemates for majority of the year.

Grz on the other hand back in 2020 when he wasn't even as good as he is today had a EV Off in the top 73% and an EV Def in the top 86% his GA was in the top 100% and his WAR was in the top 70%, his PP and shooting weren't good but i think people mistaken grz for an offensive dman because his size but he is actually way better defensively, he'd be a great partner for Faulk.

Value wise it favors the blues but I don't think they are adding another smallish LHD when they already have Krug and Perunovich.

of course Grz was good he partnered often with McAvoy. Krug and Faulk are together no need to change that up. If you want to talk about Barbashev having great teammates please look at your own isolated numbers of who Grz played with the most that would be your top 2 forward lines and McAvoy. and even if he wasn't placed with McAvoy sometimes he'd be stuck out there with him. This goes both ways just so you know lol. I look at JFresh as well. It's not all direct unless you directly correlate with HockeyViz which is Micah McCurdy's stuff which pretty much places him on the ice with certain players more heavy than others.

for the 2020 numbers i brought up he was playing 3rd pair with kevan miller, chara was with mcavoy at the time and krug was with carlo., ill have to take a look at HockeyViz but either way you can't argue and tell me Grzelcyk hasn't been more consistent for a longer period of time then Barbashev.

i also saw you comment on another post about barbashev. and i quote.
""Barbashev" he's out after next year and that money could be put forth somewhere else while Neighbours and Bolduc could fill that spot hell Peterson or Alexandrov could too"

that is a pretty bad sales pitch lol after you just tried to convince me he's worth Grzelcyk yet you could have use for him for 2-3 yrs until some rooks come up but as for barbashev you could easily replace him.

shot yourself in the foot with that one.

I mean he is out after next year. Doesn't exactly mean we are forced to take the first offer we get. As much as I like Barbashev, Blues have other plans moving forward and yes Bolduc a Center could fill that spot, fun fact Thomas Schenn could also fill the other 2 with O'Reilly. So no he's not really a need on the team, but we don't HAVE to trade him to you either. Like I said if you aren't wanting him at this type of deal which isn't exactly something we need anyway we'd move on. Pittsburgh could use him and we can sure get some who's not as much of a rental and puts us in a better spot being Grz is basically another Krug and another Perunovich. And yes Grz could be someone we use as a good stop gap for prospects to move on up, but like I said in another one you could look at this one if you wanna search my profile maybe like 3-5 messages before on a Chychrun topic. There are some free agents on the market we can go for instead as stop gaps. like Maatta, Edler, Butcher, etc. Leddy even could come back. It's not a matter of me "shooting myself in the foot" it's more me telling you the ideals of the situation. Could it be nice to have Grz sure, is he a need? No. Is is possible we keep Barbashev for a bit longer? Yes. Why did I say barbashev is gone after next season? Because he either gets traded now, at deadline, or walks because he's really not a need when we have enough guys coming up that could be used in his spot and may or may not out perform him.

Too small, provides zero toughness nor the ability to clear people out of the crease. Yes, he can move the puck, but that's about it.

Why?

They trade a second pair D for a bottom-6 forward. Also, Barbashev is UFA in a year and Grzelcyk has two more years at a good price.

He must be the only "bottom 6 forward" in the league that put up 60 points last year. Bruins are deep at LD. I'd rather get a guy like Barbashev for Grzelcyk than a 3rd rd pick for Reilly. Plus, this a Center with upside, which the Bruins will need even if Bergeron comes back.

And Blues can get a younger, tougher defenseman who can still move the puck and provide toughness. Gryz doesn't work for the Blues who already have undersized defensemen
