Would you make this trade

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Getting rid of Zaitsev and Murray's money would solve so many issues. Extra salary could be used to sign Norris this year, and Stutzle/Zub next year. I understand that two first rounders is steep but the relief from getting out of those two contracts cannot be understated.

Also buyout Colin White, I love him but with Norris and Stutzle taking the top two centre spots and guys like pinto, grieg and to a lesser extent, kastelic and ostapchuk on the way, White is taking up space on the roster and cap that won't match up to his value.

13 million in cap space can be used to try and get Stutzle signed asap, Hamonic and Del Zotto expiring give even more space at the end of the season to sign Brown and Zub.

If I’m Arizona, I at least think about that trade. 7OA and more than likely a second high round first, maybe in the top 10, all for 10mil of cap space and a 4th. Arizona could then flip them with retention at the deadline assuming they have a good year. It’s not outside the realm of possibility, but it definitely makes the Yotes think about it. I don’t think that Ottawa makes this trade though.

Ridiculous high overpayment to get rid of two guys with just two years left on their contracts. Fact is the Sens have the cap to keep those Sens or Belleville at least for this season

You can't be serious. The value of either of those two firsts can't be OVERstated.

Ottawa would never even consider it. We aren’t that desperate for cap space

Why not though? Murray is making 15 million over the next two seasons in salary and has negative value, especially on a team with two goalies that are already better, so it would take a first to get rid of him no doubt.
I guess trading another first to get rid of zaitsev is a little too steep of a price, but he has a signing bonus to pay over the next two seasons which the sens are notably scared of. And if the sens keep him around, DJ smith WILL play him next to Chabot for 20 minutes a night, and if not him, then it'll be next to Sanderson.

The overall point I was trying to make with this was how important it is to ditch these two players, they're destroying the team with their terrible play, and their salaries are damaging the chances of signing guys like Stutzle and Norris to long term deals.

Have fun trying to sign actual important players then, you understand that Ottawa will never be able to spend to the cap right? This trade fixes a massive mistake and gives the team the room it needs to actually build something remotely competitive for the first time in 15 years.

It's not cap space that's important, it's actual salary structure

I'm just being realistic man. You and I both cheer for a very poorly run, poorly financed franchise that needs to do something big to stop the cycle of terrible management decisions.

Why?

Because if you’re going to trade high 1st to dump contracts , you might as well fold the franchise

Only one high 1st, unless you think that they're going to finish low again, which doesn't sound like a very good fan's expectation

The only way 7th overall gets traded is if it’s getting one of Fiala, Ehlers or Debrincat

Take out the 2023 first and Anaheim will give you Max Jones, Sam Steel, Brayden Tracey, Josh Mahura and the Carrick brothers (Ontario boys), and still be stealing you blind.

This is a bad idea and reminds me of the anecdote Steve McQueen's character tells in The Magnificent Seven about the guy who once "took all his clothes off and jumped into a mess of cactus."

When you wake up, this will all be over.
