Yeah I agree, rip the band-aid off now and don't prolong the inevitable.

I'd imagine the Jets hold onto Dubois and everyone else and push hard for two years and see what happens as opposed to a series of bad trades.

As we've learned from Trouba and Copp, Chevy won't move them until the last minute.

laugh And Barry Trotz is even remotely thinking about coaching this team. It would be the worst decision of his career.

At this point though if all signs are pointing that way, I don't see the point in holding out hope when likely could just end up with mediocre seasons again. The 2023 draft is absolutely loaded. No point in waiting in my opinion.

Thats probably why he hasn't joined the Jets already. Probably going to be a big blow up at this point

That Helly deal gets beat easily. Go for Skinner, Borgault or Holloway and their 1st. I’d target NJ as they have the most assets that could help jumpstart the rebuild. Washington would be a good target too.

Well that may be true. I'm just pointing out what the most likely scenario is.

Yeah it could, I just have a hard time seeing a goalie go for an absolute boat load. This trade still returns a young top 6 winger, A good goalie prospect and a first.

By this point, McJesus will be demanding out unless they make a huge splash. Getting Helly would be it.
I think if he was on the block, there would be a lineup of teams making offers. Go check out the NJ Hf board, they are offering up a boatload.

If that's the case, I can't see why the rebuilding habs would trade assets for dubois and make their team better in the short term and miss out on an "absolutely loaded" draft as you called it. They may as well just wait until 2024 and make a push to sign him as a FA. This isn't very well thought up imo

I wonder if bob waives for Winnipeg that could be one ridiculous trade, if Maurice wants wheeler bad enough, would be nice to try and scoop lundell some how.

Yeah all signs are pointing of PLD, Scheifele, Wheeler and Hellebuyck wanting out. they all know what is heading Winnipegs way.

Probably be out termed and outbid by la and kopitar coming off the books, probably not a bad thing to get him earlier, but not that many firsts, would have to shine up a prospect or two to go also.

Precisely why I doubt they really want/need him. They'll be set with Suzuki-Wright-Dvorak down the middle in 2024. That sounds more than fine to compete in their division with teams like boston-toronto-tampa and most likely florida on the decline by then

PLD is still young and fits in with the rebuild/retool moving forward. a late first and likely another late first, and a good prospect isn't insane for a 23 year old 1C who would sign with you long term in my opinion.

Don't see him as a 1C, and I don't think I'm alone there. Ie both torts and maurice didn't seem to think much of him

And i'm not saying the offer isn't realistic, because it's a fine deal. Just not much sense to make it from the habs perspective if you ask me

Dubois would be perfect to mix in that Center ice group, a little weight and down low force, over 3 light centers. But obviously the deal has to be right, and cap has to work. More holes that just that one also, so need to make the cap work along with some stud dman and price replacement.

Light centres? They're all over 200lbs. They are no dubois but by no means are those three light in any way

I don't think McDavid will ever leave. He's a hockey nerd and doesn't really seek out the spotlight like Auston Matthews. As long as he doesnt feel slighted, he's going to stay in Edmonton. Look at McDavid's house, white walls all over, he's as vanilla as it comes. He's happy playing sticks and pucks on his heated driveway while eating the same meal at Joeys every day.

This. If the rumours are true, just wait until his free agency and sign him. The Habs cap situation wouldnt allow them to trade for PLD this offseason without some bad contracts going back to WPG.

Dubois weighs the same as suzuki and given the height difference it means dubois is less built.

Dvorak is within 5 pounds so no major gap.

Wright is already within 5 pound hes will be bigger thsn dubois when he fills out.

Yeah. Wright and Suzuki are both built like Crosby. Massive lower bodies. Nobody calls Crosby small. Definitely a weird comment.

It’s not so much the Edmonton thing, it’s about being a strong contender year after year. Being a hockey nerd, he will want a cup. Full stop. Getting a goalie of Hellys caliber would contribute to that goal and they would probably have advanced this year.
