Why pay anyone 6 million long term? You can likely find equal productivity from this year's version of Bunting and save major money. With Matthews, Nylander and Marner all needing contracts in 2-3 years, you need to plan for that. And overpaying a secondary forward on a hero playoff run will kill their cap. Tyler Johnson ring a bell? Or Kruger from Chicago? Never overpay depth guys.

Top 4 defenceman, who excel at being physical and shutting down the oppositions best have no value now eh? What's next, Matthews has negative value because he scores too many goals and that hurts the feelings of other players? Muzzin has good value without a doubt. No question at all. Muzzin being a bad player is simply the hope of the anti leaf mob.

I’m not sure anybody is interested in joining an anti leaf’s movement lol. He’s an injury prone defenseman who is overpaid and has a full NTC

Muzzin is worth significantly more than a mid 3rd and a bad 4th liner

Boy if one down year makes someone have negative value, what are Benn and Seguin worth these days? Or Klingberg? Funny how everyone's entire careers means nothing once the put on a leaf jersey and then get traded on this site.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many Toronto fans are so abysmally ignorant about their own team that they don't know why Jake Muzzin asked for, and Kyle Dubas gave him, an absolute NTC when he signed his new contract with the Maple Leafs on February 24, 2020. And due to our desire to acquire either a top-line forward or #1 LD or both this off-season, and the resulting need for every dollar of cap space, we wouldn't have any interest in Muzzin with less than 40% retention.

No they really aren’t lol. I didn’t say Brodie was a negative asset. I said an injury prone lefty with a high cap hit was a negative asset lol.

I’ve seen leaf’s fans defend the Muzzin trade on here… there is no reasoning with that

I guess we should swap him for Pulock then? He's an injury prone player who makes to much as well eh? Muzzin has played basically full seasons in 7 of his 9 years in the NHL. Pulock has only two full seasons without injury. Better write him off as well eh? What a joke

Kings have much better options when it comes to spending $5.625M for the next 2 years than a 33 year old D man that they don't need.

except he isnt injury prone and his cap hit is fair for what he brings, and that's before you add that intangibles tax that gms love and every single player that isnt a leaf but hits gets around here.
Muzzin is very valuable and if he was available someone would pay a lot for him.

I guess so is Crosby? Or literally every player in hockey who's ever had one? You're obviously just trolling

Dude ur a clown lmao. Muzzin has a long concussion history. Pulock got hit by a shot. There’s a huge difference and Muzzin was never and will never be as good as Pulock Lmao.

Crosby is a generational talent who overcame it. Muzzin has been banged up for the better part of two seasons and is a 33 year old d man in steep decline. Get real.

To be fair, it's not easy being a leaf fan on here. 50% of the people on here hate the Leafs more than they like hockey. So anything you say you get crapped on. Now couple that with the large proportion of people on here who obviously don't really know much about hockey (this is most people of all fan bases, Leafs included) and the natural bias we all have, it's hard to know what will or will not make sense sometimes.

That being said, I am not sure I would trade Muzzin but if Dubas decides to, he can make it happen without much trouble. Contrary to guys like the Islander fan on this thread who hates TO more than he likes the Islanders, he's still a top 4 shutdown defenceman who is a playoff warrior. That has value

I don’t like the islanders either lmao. But everyone and I mean everyone dislikes Jake Muzzin. Don’t act like I’m the only one.

He’s 33. You claim he is a physical shut down defenseman, but was a minus 6 on a team with a positive goal differential. He’s on the decline at just under six million per. Competitive teams don’t have cap space for him. Non playoff teams are better off keeping their picks. I just don’t see a market for him at positive value unless Toronto retains salary. You might get lucky tho. Somebody traded for Kieth lol
