Why would Detroit spend the pick when rumors are that Chicago isn't going to qualify him? We'll just sign him as a FA and keep the pick if we want him

If Strome is not going to be qualified, then Detroit is out. Otherwise, turn that pick into a 3rd and Detroit takes a flyer on Strome.

Toews is an overpay. He was always overrated. Chicago needs to pay other teams to take Toews. As far as character, I don't think anyone wants Toews in their locker room. Kane is a problem too, but teams over look that when players still produce. Both players should be approached with caution.

I'd also like to note, the Kings are waaaay overpaying. Turcotte for Debrincat. No sweeteners.

Edit: (keeping original post). I had thought Debrincat was UFA and older. 2 1sts and Turcotte might not get it done. Those 1sts are gonna be in the 20s. Maybe Byfield for Debrincat?

I would be shocked if KD doesn't qualify him, there's nothing holding the hawks back from doing so.

I would accept that offer as the Los Angeles GM, and meet DeBrincat's plane in person when he landed.

That's fair, but if they do, then he's yours. Detroit isn't trading for another 3rd line center.

Nah. Toews is 34. Coming off a .5 ppg season. Making 10.5 million. Nobody is taking that without sweeteners.

I also think it is fair to point out his character flaws, as he did a pretty ****ty job being a decent human when he opened his mouth to discuss the Beech incident. He is no leader. I dont imagine a lot of locker rooms want that baggage.

You're also dumping nemeth, so essentially paying 3 mil (including the retained salary) for a 2/3C (who can pair with chytil down the middle at those two spots), with something your team lacks a championship pedigree. For a late 2nd round pick you solve your 2C problem for the year and don't have to resign him. Toews is still good enough to be a middle 6 center, and he was coming off an illness from the previous year.

He is no leader but has won everywhere (including 3 cups) and is regarded as one of the best captains in the league's history but go on. Ranger fans have to be some of the worst. Go on about your future and finish in the conference semi finals or finals forever, never winning a cup. What do you have like 1 since 1940? With a big addition of a proven cup winner and proven leader helping in '94. Toews isn't Messier, but he was 31 when he was moved to NY and you probably would've complained about his salary or age then.

I think you're underestimating Strome. He scores 20% more than Suter does, is better at driving the play, has 20% more takeaways while having 35% fewer giveaways (and Suter is our current #1 in GA-TA stat), and he's better at faceoffs. He'd definitely slot in as a 2C with us.

First, not a Rangers fan. Just looking at this objectively as an unbiased party.

And I think you might try Google-ing how well regarded Toews is regarded as a captain these days. The praise train really slowed down and reversed itself after it became clear what Toews knew and didn't know about about their teammate and Brad Aldrich. Toews, Kane, and Keith all denied knowing much of anything, but former teammates said otherwise. Toews even doubled down and said good things about Stan and company.

Good captains certainly would have done more than Toews, who did less than nothing. It was the 2010s, not the 1970s. There are plenty of articles and opinions out there telling the world what a "great" captain he is. He was willing to sacrifice everything, including his own teammate's livelihood.

He'd slot in at 2C because of how thin we are up the middle. He's a 3C on a good team. We should be trying to be a good team. I definitely wouldn't mind him here, I just don't think we should be trading picks for a guy that doesn't significantly move the needle.

With that said, I wouldn't be opposed to this move, but I would rather Detroit go after his brother on July 13th.

That is clearly wrong and conjecture you asserting as truth. Why don't you read the full report by Jenner & Block that goes into extreme detail of the events, including interviews, where the ONE NHL/AHL tweener player that said EVERYONE knew, later retracted his statement and put it into context to say on the AHL team. Beach never played for the Hawks and even his best friend and AHL roommate had no idea about what happened until the following season when rumors were circulating but Beach never admitted to it with his best friend...a guy who as a minority was one of the early players to advocate against racism in hockey. You are making wild assumptions based on poor journalism, gaslighting and cancel culture, but be better then that. I have zero doubt in mind Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa, etc. knew anything about what happened at the time or even knew Beach beyond extremely casually at training camps. Rumors circulate in hockey locker rooms all the time, i'm sure months later rumors circulated but who knows what the rumors were. Maybe it was Beach hooked up with Aldrich and that was the extent. You are taking a HUGE leap of faith to suggest more then that.

As far as Kane, Toews or Keith defending Coach Q or Bowman when broadsided with the news of their firings, yes they used poor choice of words, but their experience with those individuals is very different then Beach's experience. Does that make what they said right? No, but in the heat of the moment broadsided by the news and asked questions, you can at least understand their comments.

Don't be so quick to flame anyone in life unless you know the facts, and if all the facts aren't presented, don't be so quick to call everyone guilty by association. Imagine if someone you worked with committed sexual assault and just because you work at the same company you should be held accountable as well because the facts suggest nothing different then that. The court of public opinion is generally filled with fools.
