Why are they getting a guy who will slot into their top pairing rn and get better but not actually be of any relevance in making the playoffs let alone making a push for the SC? And in the meantime, lose 3 decent pieces that could contribute a bunch in a rebuild? I might agree with you if Girard only had a year or two left on his deal or if he were an aging vet. But this is a 24 year old signed through 2027. He would become a core member of the Habs through a rebuild. If that’s your take, the Habs should also trade Suzuki and really bottom out.
