Ehhh I don't know. I think the Caps consider this. They get a Russian vet goalie who can mentor Sammy and who can steal games for you. Obviously, it depends what is going on with Gibson / Kuemper / Husso, but I would consider this trade if I were the Caps, especially if those goalies are off the table.

Add another mil in retention (total of $2.5mil in retention) and the Caps should take it.

Why do so many people think the Caps would give up Vanecek and a 2nd-round pick for one season of Varly? Even with salary retention, the Islanders would be lucky to get Vanecek - cost controlled for another few years - for one season of Varly.
