Trading the ones with clear value

Created by: CLR
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 7, 2022
Published: Jul. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Petry is tougher to trade than Edmundson. We need more help on RD than LD. Let’s keep Petry and bank on Eddy.

Anderson has clearly value, because he is a rare breed of speed, shot, physicality.
Trade Allen and resign Monty
Sign Romanov long term
Ghule makes the team out of camp
Sign a vet LD short term to replace Edmundson
Byron will probably start injured again.

Hold up.

You seem to be claiming that Edmundson is a 4LD. And yet you're wanting 2 firsts?

Oh boy.

2022 1st is for Eddy for 2 years.
The 2nd is for retaining 2 full years at 50%.

A bit like Hagel.
Oh boy.

One late 1st for Eddy.
Another late 1st to retain money for 2 full years.
Young top 4 defenseman in is prime for two full years at 1750 000.

Like Hagel a bit, but Eddy is way more proven.

Why would Edmundson get Hagel value when Chicago traded 5 seasons of team control for Hagel and the Habs are trading 2? Thats a very poor comparable to use.

He probably meant top 4...that being said, I have no idea why there'd be any comp to Hagel?

Trading Allen doesn't make sense when Price might not even play.

-Beyond the weird comparison to Brandon Hagel(a 23 y/o LW =/= a 29 y/o D even if the cap hit is similar), Toronto doesn't need LD enough to give up that kind of package for Edmundson (they literally have 5 left-handed D on this year's team: Rielly, Muzzin, Giordano, Sandin, & TJ Brodie with the last 2 being able to play both sides).

-No thanks from the Isles, we have enough wingers in their late 20s making $5M+.

-Probably fair value for Allen with that retention, but Edmonton has to figure out what's going on with Mike Smith before they do that

TB could have Hagel for anywhere between 5-10 years. He doesn't even have arbitration rights at the end of his current deal. Plus he's 23.

Edmundson is 29 with two years remaining, then can test the market. They're not similar at all.

how are Edmundson and Hagel even remotely alike? Edmundson is 29, Hagel 23. Hagel expires as an RFA while Ed a UFA. Not even remotely comparable
