What is Fletcher's plan? Does he think he's a Tony D away from making the playoffs?

No, he seems to think he's a Tony D and whatever he overpays for in free agency away from the playoffs. Which is actually worse, because he's gonna add another long term overpaid deal to that roster. Kadri at $9M?

Rumor is that Ellis isn't starting next season, and he might be done for good. Supposedly, he has a degenerative hip condition.

Damn, that's rough for Ellis.

On paper this trade looks pretty good for PHI. I'm just not sure it'll be a good fit. It's gonna be another rough season for the Flyers and it's only a matter of time until Torts and Tony D blow up. But, he's a really good offensive D and that fact shouldn't be overlooked.

If TDA was traded to a team that had a coach like Rod Brind'amour, I might have voted fair deal.

Instead, TDA is traded to one of the worst teams in the league and one that is coached by Torts.

This is a disaster waiting to happen for the Flyers.

Carolina wins the trade.

If only we had an offensive defenseman that we didn't trade with multiple picks last year to make room for a 7ft parking cone that hits.

1 pick away from Shane Wright but hey you got TDA. It's all about the entertainment in the end!! Wright seems kind of vanilla. Torts plus TDA. The hockey world is ecstatic.

Fair deal, but I'm not sure how Torts and him will go.

... Update, Deangelo's a healthy scratch tonight. Unless Caroline wiffs on all three draft picks, they have clearly won this trade.

HORRENDOUSLY BAD AWFUL TRADE. Giving up high picks when we should be HOLDING ON TO PICKS. The incompetence is REAL.

When it's all said and done this trade will end up being

2024 2nd

2023 3rd

2022 4th

In exchange for

1 year of Anthony Deangelo

2022 7th

Some prospect

2.5 million in dead cap this year

A masterclass in incompetence from Fletcher

DeAngelo has certainly had an up and down career. He was an unsigned RFA at the time of the trade, but he was such a great fit in Carolina I remember thinking if all it took to sign him was 2x$5M they should have kept him. Of course, I didn’t know they had Brent Burns up their sleeve. We also don’t know that he would have signed that same contract with Carolina. I wonder if they actually tried to sign him, or just decided to turn his strong season into some draft capital.

What happened to him in Philadelphia? He put up some decent numbers last season (except +/-) but I heard that he got scratched toward the end of the season, not necessarily because he did anything wrong, but because they wanted to give some young guys more ice time, which probably wasn't unreasonable since they were out of contention.

I wonder what happens to him now. This is the second time he's been bought out. There was a rumor about him being traded back to Carolina, but I guess that deal was off once they signed Orlov. Does he go back there or somewhere else for league minimum, or is he done? He's only 27.

Orlov-Burns
Slavin-DeAngelo
Skjei-Pesce
Extras: Chatfield, Coghlan

Looks pretty impressive to me, considering how effective the Slavin-DeAngelo pair was for them in 2022.
