If your desperate for a goalie clap your hands

Created by: Cardiak
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 11, 2022
Published: Jul. 11, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team still loses first round. Leafs fans are coming for my head right now about to say knies and niemela are the next matthews and Reilly. If a team is in win now mode with 2 years left on their best player before he leaves or demands the richest contract in league history. Either way the leafs are screwed 2 years from now so they gotta do everything to win this year or the next. Not being able to sign their starting goalie is an ominous sign for what is about to come.

  2. 2023 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Niemela was a third round pick, they get a high third rounder and a backup goalie to split time with Murray. Unless leafs fans want their tandem to look like murray and kallgren or woll, they should trade for a backup and Allen posted above a 900 save percentage on the worst team in the league

TOR
  1. Hamonic, Travis
  2. Murray, Matt ($3,125,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I guess this is your starter
OTT
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
Best offer I see the sens giving, they have the leverage hear as the laughs don’t have a goalie for next season. Gets the sens a better rd on an expiring contract as well and gets the leafs their starting goalie and a serviceable d man

Jake Allen is going to cost an arm and a leg to pull from Montreal. No way they give up Allen and a 3rd for Niemelä.

Hard pass for Seattle, they want to keep RHD and not add another LHD, they're already stacked in that position. Going to cost Leafs prospects and picks for Larsson.

Muzzin has a NTC....he ain't waiving for Seattle. I really don't understand all this talk about Murray even at 50% retention. There are better values out there for the Leafs.

These seem pretty fair. The first trade would be contingent on Price's health. Think Seattle really likes Larsson and he's really their only good RD whereas they have Oleksiak, Dunn, and Soucy on the left.

Allen wouldn't cost much. He could be had for a 3rd round pick. If we are going to assign real value, the Leafs should be looking at better options like Reimer.

Soo boy, you know Dubas loves those guys. Think the goalie market is starting to dry up though, good options that can fit under the cap are getting fewer and fewer.

Nope. At that return Habs just keep him. He still has value to them. Keeps them competitive every game.

and at more than that, the Leafs can shop for better options like Reimer in SJ.

While I agree there are better values, the leafs aren’t really in the running for any of them. Only one they are remotely close with is campbell and tbh I see him signing with edmonton. Only other UFA goalie is kuemper and he has shown no interest in Toronto. Trading seems like the only option right now and with vanacek off the market now, the market is pretty bare. It was bare to begin with. Murray and Allen are the only two goalies I see the leafs being able to get honestly. While I agree with the statement there are better values, none of them are looking favorably for the leafs. Anyways always an honor palhal, a true OG of the site.

Might as well bring benier in as well. Reimer I liked but sharks probably keep him for their sake. These are the only two goalies I see being traded out of their current situations and in both situations the leafs give up a pretty penny

Get Bernier and Reimer back together. It'll be the Return of the Bernier Wives vs Reimer Rooters. 😁

Well then you'd be wrong. San Jose has 3 goalies who can't be sent down to the AHL, one is definitely parting from there to go somewhere.

You're right the options "under the cap" are getting fewer and fewer. Hence why I have said for a long time, that Nylander has to be traded, so the Leafs get cap to get an NHL goalie.
But so many Leaf fans, don't seem to understand the cap/NTCs/ 22 man rosters/7th NHL Dmen....

IMO, the Leafs options without trading Nylander are to go cheap and hope.....Holtby or Comrie would be UFA choices if inexpensive is the way they are going.

Kahkkonen hill and Reimer are all good. I see that other teams outbidding the leafs for Reimer is he is on the market.

Thanks for compliment. It's a privilege to the talk hockey to my pals across the globe. IMO, the only way the Leafs can afford a so called good goalie is to offload 7m X 2 Nylander (with no cap returned), and then the Leafs have cap for Campbell or maybe even a trade. But I have been met with horror by Leaf fans, at the thought of trading Nylander.
Well in a cap strapped league, teams spend their cap where they can. So the choices are a 7m RWer and a 2m starting goalie. Or a 4m RWer (not as good as Nylander) and a 5m goalie (better than the 2m goalie)

Leafs need a good and experienced backup that is not too expensive, and Habs need top RD prospects. Leafs window is closing and they're squeezed. Dubas is now a distressed buyer, such as Sakic was last year with Kuemper. That's a fair deal.

The price isn’t even that bad bro. He’s retained 50% and they get a 3rd back

Edmonton declines. They're looking for a player who can help the team now, they aren't taking this offer and they CERTAINLY aren't retaining.

Leafs aren't trading Knies he will be joining them after NCAA College hockey is over. He's untouchable in the eyes of leaf management.

Stop using untouchable as a term for a guy who was a mid round pick and put up PPG numbers in his first ncaa season. Untouchable is overused so much by every fan base it’s annoying. As a canes fan I have heard jarvis is untouchable. If an offer that was good enough came around like a package for a guy like pasta then I see them pulling the trigger. Knies is far from untouchable. Honestly anybody who was in the top 50 for points this season, the leafs easily sell knies for. Hell I go further and say any player who put up 50 points this season chosen at random they give knies up for in a package for that guy. Maybe an exception in a guy with an awful contract like seth jones but that leaves at least 125+ players the leafs would give up knies for and that doesn’t include prospects, young players, and players who didn’t play enough games to get to 50 points but were on pace to. Stop calling your guys untouchable because the only and I mean the only guy that is untouchable on the leafs is matthews. Even then, if the oilers offer mcdavid the leafs pay matthews+ to get him. Easily 200+ players who the leafs would trade for knies
