To think we could have traded him in part of a deal for a top/middle 6 forward and instead we go out and do this? Must be nice. I really just don’t understand this move at all. Underwhelming return and we already have a logjam at the D position, there was no need to take Smith back. Could’ve had at least a 2nd and 3rd and I’d have been a bit more relieved I guess. Just not a good trade here though. And it’s not like Smith has gotten any better either….. it’s the opposite in his case.

Yeah . Logjam at LD and for New Jersey likely means Severson is gone

Unfortunately it looks like the Pens lost all chance to acquire Miller

Smith has potential to be MAtheson 2.0 and i love the potential he brings. he can play both left and right d. The Pens work wonders with dmen who have haven't been able to reach their potential. yes it does suck to not get a foward for Marino, however smith and a 3rd is a solid return for Marino if Smith can be unleashed. More trades are to come to get rid of dmen and there are still some solid UFA fowards we can now sign do to the new created cap space.

This trade is not ideal at all and now forces the pens to move a LHD bc they have 5 now…
We haven’t solved the defensive logjam…
I hate giving up on Marino… he still has such if a higher ceiling than Ty smith and now I’m praying that third round pick will be the second coming of Jake guentzel

if i had to guess it’s probably cause you guys don’t even have enough cap space to re-sign laine rn

While accurate we have roughly 6 million in cap and we need to move out nyquist to fit him under the cap. If we moved bean and nyquist out in a trade. We’d have more than enough for laine and marino.
