Re-signing everyone shouldn't take more than 10M imo. That's the absolute most it will take. Plus I'm sure guys on rookie/minimum deals like Jiricek and Foudy will make a push for a line-up spot.

Would probably be a huge mistake giving up Kent Johnson for Tkachuk, plus you don't got a set up man for Laine since Voracek would have to go. No need to try to rush anything, they will be better off in the long-run.

There is certainly some merit to improving the defense by simply spending more time on offense. Adding 2/3 of the best line in hockey from the previous season is going to boost everything about the team's 5v5 results.

That said, I think I'd rather let someone else pay the price and gamble that Tkachuk is able to replicate last year without his linemates. At least if Gaudreau can't then the Jackets are only in it for the cap space and money instead of a big chunk of their future and their best 2-way player.
