Final Roster

Description
Thoughts on the final roster? I see a fit for Kerfoot in Colorado. There are a few teams in that boat. It is hard to gage value. It is clear the Leafs will get a lot less than they normally would for a guy like Kerfoot based on teams cap scenarios right now.

I see something like this playing out though.

Leafs aren’t done yet and that’s a horrible 4th line and sandin isn’t gonna sign that. Maglin sucks Joey sucks, mcmann isn’t even ready yet. Get rid of those guys. Sign gagner and some other guy that can take league min. And Joey could be ur extra guy

The 4th line is more than likely going to have 1 or 2 of Anderson/McMann/Steeves/Douglas/Malgin/Gaudette. Have to give some of those guys a shot at some point. I would be interested in a guy like Stepan at League min and ZAR at 1-1.5m a year.

As for Sandin, we will see what he gets. Him and Lily should get similar. Unless he goes 3 year deal at 2m a year. Or on a 1 year deal.

Avs could just sign Stastny. Better, (likely) lower AAV, and doesnt cost anything to acquire

I dont see any team giving up assets for Kerfoot in the current trade market

It seems odd that Colorado would want to take Kerfoot back at this stage of the season. (I can see it at the trade deadline if they have an injury problem.) The Avalanche have $3.9 million in cap space right now with 21 guys on the roster. It seems much more likely that they would prefer to use that cap space to audition youngsters like Beaucage, Bowers, Foudy, Kaut, Meyers and Ranta than spend it all on Kerfoot. But I agree that he should get interest from the right team(s).

Tor fans need to give up the dream that anyone is giving up anything for Kerf. Half the league is trying DESPERATELY to move out cap space and the first group of players that teams cut are middle 6 forwards.

The guy has no value because the market is just insane.

Time will tell. He would fall in the same category as a Connor Brown type who fetched a 2nd. But that was a few weeks ago and things have changed. Hence why I stated that it is hard to gauge values at this time of year.

I can see why fans would assume they are similar players but they really aren't.

Both hard working, defensive minded top 9 wingers, who put up points, play on great the pk, are fast and don't quit. Tell me how they aren't similar? Of course no player is the same, I get that. But they are definitely comparable.

That might have been the entire market for that player, also Ottowa had leverage in the fact that they are not over the cap. I suspect the ship has sailed on Kerfoot returning much of anything outside of a NHL AHL tweener depth piece.

COL has been there done that w/Kerfoot no need to repeat, but he is almost the exact opposite of what COL looks in their forwards no’s of being hard to play against. Don’t get me wrong love his heart but there is a reason COL was willing to trade him and he makes a whole lot more now.

The only reason I see is term. If stastny wants 2 years he wouldn't work as well. Kerfoot having one season left opens things up for extensions next season.

Kerfoot would be a great addition, but with the tight cap, might be a mid-season trade. It would be cool to have him back and contributing to a long playoff run!

He signed a 1 year deal last year so I don't think term is his top priority. Pretty sure he just wants to win
