Can they make the playoffs - Its a solid roster

Created by: TheRealisticGuy
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2022
Published: Aug. 12, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So Simon Edvinsson need to outplay Oesterle Walman and Hagg if he wants to make the team

My bet they take their time with him (Maata signing)

Zadina need a breakout season, like 20 goals 40ish points would be good

If they get solid goaltending and stays healthy, I could see them making the playoffs

They could adress the LHD at the TDL if they have a real solid season

They won't waive Haag, Pysyk is on LTIR and will very likely never even suit up for the Wings and if he does, it won't be until January at the earliest... Achilles injuries are no joke.

Also, Walman will start the season on IR recovering from shoulder surgery.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Rasmussen kicks the door in and FORCES his way into the top 9. He looked like he put it all together at the end of the year last season and I expect him to have a career year.

Also, Zadina will not get that much. My bet is on a short 1 or 2 year deal between 1.25 and 1.75, max.

In this scenario were Walman and Pysyk dont start the year, DET could give Edvindsson 9 games before sending him back in the A

Unless he really impresses in camp and preseason he likely starts in the AHL. The 9 game thing is only for CHL players to save a year on their contract, doesn't work if a guy plays in the AHL. Seider played a year in the AHL before ever getting a shot in the big leagues.

Pretty sure, it's all juniors (OHL, WHL, CHL), right? Not just the CHL?

I think Detroit made some solid moves to raise their ceiling.

That being said, I don't see these additions adding the 35ish points that they'll need to make up to jump into a wildcard spot. TB, TOR and FLA are all significantly better overall than the Wings, and even with a couple of injuries to start the year, the B's are still very, very solid. The Metro also continues to have a very strong top 5 or so teams.

Detroit will be fun(ner) to watch for Wings fans, and probably hang around for a bit, but I don't even know that they're better than the Sens at this point. That D-core is going to make it really, really hard for Husso to come anywhere close to his 2022 numbers, IMO.

Certainly not an attempt to bash the Wings here, because again, I think they made some smart moves (Chiarot notwithstanding), but they're a year away still, IMO.

CHL covers all Jrs. It includes the OHL, WHL and QMJHL.

The 9 game thing is not only for CHL player, let’s say Slafkovsky for MTL plays 9 games with MTL and is sent back in the AHL, his ELC will slide. Tobias Bjornfot for LA did that (played 3 games tho but could have went for 9)

honestly think East will be pretty competitive this year. A lot more teams will be in the running come March. If wings get off to a good start like last year but can carry it through to the end, I think they got a decent chance.

There are quite a few people who don't care about junior hockey here so definitely a few people are ignorant to that fact.

Detroit have about 50% chance of snatching a wild card spot. This offseason has fixed so many weaknesses and with a bit of luck it could be enough to sneak in.

Edvinsson will start in GR and if he's called up it'll be after the TDL when we know what happens with our rentals (Määttä, Hägg, Oesterle) and injured players (Walman, Pysyk). If a defender needs to be called up due to injuries it will depend on who the injured player is, Albert Johansson is better defensively than Simon Edvinsson is.

Rasmussen improved late last season but he did that playing the wing, as a centre he's still subpar and Veleno will take the 4C spot. Erne and Smith are the scratches together with Oesterle.

4th line will be Rasmussen - Veleno - Sundqvist, 3rd Pair will be Hägg - Lindström. In all other aspects this is pretty spot on.
