Wishful thinking bud — and that isn’t nearly enough even if you want to use that ridiculous Tkachuck trade as an example.

Replace Gourde with Beniers or Wright and make it a 2023 1st and you’re probably good. Throw in a 2023 2nd too for good measure

Lol, mission complete.

I would like to add though if Barzal were to be traded to Sea next year it's probably the worse of Beniers/Wright+Gourde (or another forward for the cap component), depending on Barzal's performance and the traded C prospects performance there were be more or going going to NY, in terms of picks.

Good one. Maybe add a couple 1sts onto Barzal if you think wright or berniers is going back the other way

Unlikely Barzal after demanding a trade warrants a proespect that good

The Islanders will have options, and they won't need them both, so let's say if one isn't even NHL ready, I can see them do it to advance their position. If they are both solid NHLers, then I don't think Seattle would bother giving one up because of their ELCs. Who knows though maybe Geekie has a breakout season and they would deal him instead.

It really does depend on Barzal's performance.

How is a team gonna trade for a 25 year old 1C and not give up a top prospect. Gimme a break

any deal for barzal would need to be more futures-focused than this

i mean right now you have none. you hope you have two all star centers. beniers looked great to end the season and is my pick to win the calder next year but prospects bust all the time. clearly at least 3 nhl teams didn’t see it with wright.

Wright will be a Top centre in NHL ! The only True counter argument to mine is that Beniers is a natural winger and not a centermen

If Barzal demanded a trade, Vancouver would have to compete with Seattle. The package would be a lot more than what you're proposing.

you hope wright will be a top center. it very well might be true. but he might be a yakupov, or a dylan strome, a sam reinhart, or a sam bennett, or a nuge. great, valuable players (aside from yakupov) but not bonafide all-star, top center in the league type players.

laugh An aging Gourde+Dunn+2025 1st round pick that's still 3 drafts away. Doesn't even come remotely close for Matthew Barzal.

Obviously things can change, but does this sound like a guy that's going to pull a Tkachuk:

“I would love to be here on the Island. This is home, this is where I want to be, this is where I want to win. I love my life here, love the city, the fans, our new rink is amazing. Love wearing the blue and orange. I would love to sign long-term here. I think it's such a cool thing when a player plays his whole career with one team. A lot of my favorite athletes have done that, so it’s obviously something I’d like to follow in as well.”
