As a Leaf fan I would love that Mayfield trade. New York needs all the scoring help they can get and Kerfoot would help them a bit in that regard BUT I wouldn't make this trade if I were them. They have a lot of middle of the roster forwards already. They need genuine star power at forward. The benefits of Kerfoot will not outweigh the loss of Mayfield in my mind.

I assume if the Leafs put Holl on waivers someone would claim him. So I doubt you would need to pay Montreal to take him. I could be wrong though.

I don't think you need to pay a team to take holl, i doubt he'll survive waivers

Isles don't have anyone to play RHD behind Mayfield and don't really have a spot for Kerfoot in their forward core

This would make absolutely no sense for the Islanders Mayfield can fetch a first and Kerfoot is barely worth a 3rd in this market

if chiarot and savard could i’d think mayfield can, he’s better than both players were plus will be at league minimum salary with 50% retained. at the very least a manson level return is reasonable i’d think.

What makes you think Mayfield can fetch a first?

His cap hit, abilities and size if guys like Savard, Chiarot and others can fetch a first at the deadline Mayfield who is better can most definitely and if islanders retain 50% that’s league minimum for a 4th-5th d man who’s even better in the playoffs

Oh you are talking at the deadline. Your initial comment makes no sense then. You were talking about Kerfoots value now being a 3rd ("is barely worth a 3rd in this market") then compared him to Mayfield's likely value at the tdl.

Kerfoots value would likely go up then too

Eh Mayfield can still get moved right now for a 1st+ they can have him for a full year and Kerfoot is a solid third liner but making 3.5 it’s hard for any team to be interested in him especially in this market where it’s incredibly hard to move any cap

I doubt Mayfield gets a 1st now. Minnesota just traded a #5 defenseman making about 2 mil for future considerations.

Kerfoot is a fine 2 lw or 3 c. But just fine. Not exceptional. I'm with you. The interesting thing for him is his cap hit is 3.5 but he's actually only making 750k

I kinda feel there is a trade to be made if wanted to a cash budget team. But we shall see

-Holl probably doesn't cost a 3rd to move, but you're probably looking at the Kulikov deal (sending him out for FC) if you want him off the squad.

-Isles pass because this creates a hole (no depth behind Mayfield at RD) to fill something that's not a need (adding Kerfoot turns this into "what if we built the whole team out of middle-6 forwards?")

The problem with trying to send Kerfoot to a cap floor team is that he's got a 10-team NTC, and I think you have to assume the Arizonas of the world are going to be on it. If you're limiting his market to teams that aren't deep in a rebuild (Arizona/Chicago/Buffalo/San Jose/Seattle probably make up half his list), you're looking at the following teams with enough cap space to get him:

-Colorado (assume they're not interested in a reunion)
-Winnipeg (possible but also a common NTC team because...Manitoba)
-Minnesota (maybe? their bottom 6 is a little weak and this lets you avoid rushing the prospects)
-Ottawa (maybe? feel like they'd want to give their young guys some run over bringing in a veteran for the middle 6 tho)

Beyond them, you've got Anaheim & Detroit who might be on the cusp of contention but aren't going to give up an asset for a middle-6 rental just yet, and that's really it.

You're right I think his value is super suppressed this moment because of what you discuss. But we shall see. Colorado kinda makes sense for me if they want a simple/cheap middle six add to essentially help shelter their C's development for a year. But I can't imagine they'll pay much.

If he has the kind of season I think he will I suspect he'd be worth a 2nd +/- a bit at the deadline.

So I can see an Anaheim paying a 3rd or 4th because he'll be cheap and flipping him for higher at the deadline or keeping him if they like him

Stupid market. Lol
