Detroit isn't adding roster players and neither piece is a need for us. The value is certainly fine, but Detroit is not the right trade partner.

Ottawa would be interested in Severson. I'm sure you could get a 2nd rounder for him from Ottawa.

Nemec isn't ready yet, so why not just keep Severson as a self-rental if you're not getting anything worthwhile in return?



OP is seriously underestimating the market for Severson if he were to be shopped.
The Chiarot, Ristolainen and Savard returns are reasonable comparables.

This makes no sense for New Jersey

Trading Severson at the TDL to a team in need, probably gets the best return for the Devils. Wings were are likely out the playoffs would have no interest in trading for upcoming UFAs

Detroit wouldn't do this unless it's at the deadline and somehow we're in the playoff mix. Move him at the deadline to a contender and clean up instead.

Why the rush to trade Severson? This concepts makes no sense. And at the deadline, he would get much more. Even if you think AJ is a negative asset, why would the Devils feel they should take less to trade AJ by that point?

Oh I agree. I just put Detroit in there since they were one of the few teams with the most cap space. If we aren't in a playoff position, and they are, another big body to go along with Seider and Evidson would be great for them.

Even if we are in a playoff push, we would need to unload him since Marino is technically taking his spot and we have Walsh, Nemec, and Nikita coming up.

Since Severson is better overall player than Marino, it wouldn't be crazy if we extended Severson and moved Marino next off-season.

But considering the recent market for top-4 RDs....could probably get a haul at deadline for him.

Severson would be nice but Detroit isn't there yet. I do think Ottawa is in a better position to trade for Severson after the offseason they just had.
