Wild aren't ruining their team and cap to take on your cap dumps. Trade them elsewhere. Wild again say no .

Trouble is, there are three trades other teams would never make....Devils, Kings, Wild

Doesn't have to be the wild. That was just a cap dump it could be to any team for any price, that's not the point of this post

Kings amd Wild trades could be to anywhere for anything. Increase the picks if needed, that's not the point of the post

I don't think the NJD one is far off. Point per game winger for a mid 1st + 3rd + young NHLer/prospect is a pretty standard return, but you can tweak it if you want - that doesn't really affect the roster comparison

There are so few teams that can afford or even want cap dumps....that's the a point. Besides Kings certainly don't Muzzin for 5.6m X 2, non playoff Jersey isn't giving all that for two years of Nylander, and really try it find a team(s) that want M NTC Kerfoot and Holl.

As of right now youre right, but these trades could be done near the beginning of the offseason. Tons of teams were moving big cap hits around (McDonagh, Burns, Pacioretty, Bjorkstrand, Dadonov/Weber, Murray, etc) and im sure a team wouldve taken a chance on Muzzin/Kerfoot/Holl before UFA opened up and teams used up all of their cap space, especially if they were being paid for it. Maybe its not LAK and MIN, but I think they couldve found a fit if they looked to move those guys earlier. Its the same thing the Leafs did with Murray - they needed a G and took a chance on an overpaid player while getting some assets in return. Similarly LAK needed LHD and may have taken Muzzin back if they also got some picks/prospects

Just because a team missed the playoffs doesnt mean they arent going to try to get better - NJD just signed Palat at age 31, if they were offered Nylander for a reasonable price before UFA opened up I think they would be interested

I don’t know why you are taking heat for this: I think it is well thought out. At the end of the day, it’s probably a slightly better roster, but it’s always hard to know with wouldashouldacouldas because we don’t know if those players would have signed, we don’t know if those trades would have worked (I think they are fair though by the way), etc.. But I would have been happy if this is what happened in the off-season, I think it’s a bit better of a roster.

For me it's just that I'm very hesitant in having the Devils trade 1st rd picks at this point in time.
I want to see that this core is mature enough to make the playoffs by the strength of their own backs, I think that should be the benchmark for whether it's worthwhile to trade high picks for short term gain or not.

I love Nylander and I think the value you suggested in the trade favours the Devils.
But I'd much rather have Palat + getting to pick in the 10-20 range in a stacked 2023 draft would leave the Devils a lot better off in the long term.

I also think the Leafs would be hard pressed to find a better player at 7m than Nylander.
Willie's contract fits Toronto's competitive window perfectly, trading him would in almost every case be a mistake.

This is nitpicky, but the Leafs offered Kase that same deal and he chose the Hurricanes.
