Can't imagine it's a trade if the update is coming from Keefe, but you never know.

I will be very surprised if they trade him leaving only Liljgren, Hollowell, Rindell, Villeneuve as the only RD's under contract on the team.

I'd be a little surprised, but not overly. Rielly, Muzz, Gio, Brodie, Sandin should all be regulars when healthy - don't think Leafs management/coaching puts as much stock into lefty/righty as most. Besides, even if it is a trade, we don't know what it is yet. Could be for a cheaper depth RD.

What was FLA scared of with these contracts for Huby and Weegar? I like Tkachuk a lot but they gutted their roster for him.

They don't have the cap
+ Weegar played terrible, during last playoffs

I've been playing around with it, it's not that bad. Especially if you retain on a Bob deal (which they most likely are looking at doing anyways) with or without those two.

Weegar made a couple of bad decisions in the playoffs, he is an excellent D man

On Hubby, I agree, Cats needed more grit, so they went for chucky. It makes sense. But they should've gotten someone like Zadorov back, because the pet side is pretty slim.
They needed to change something
As per weegar, sometimes I find, players are underrated, and because of that label, they become overrated
Thus is the case for Weegar at this point .

Unless Tavares is on LTIR to start the year (which is unlikely) or they look at maybe moving Engvall that has to point to a Kerfoot trade to get under the cap

Weegar is an elite defenseman who’s one weakness (foot speed) was exposed against Tampa and fans overreact to a few bad decisions he made under pressure.

The same thing happened to Devon Toews in the bubble(for different reasons )but it doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a top pair caliber defenseman.

Top 3 goaltending tandem and top 5 top 4 D core will prevent that from happening. Isles are probably a wild card team.

Actually, he played excellent last playoffs. He had like 1 or 2 bad turnovers, and was his usual elite self in all areas of the game outside of that, driving play at both ends of the ice. 1 or 2 bad plays doesn’t make you a terrible player when everything else you do is overwhelmingly positive.

NYI? They won't make the playoffs. I'll put $50 in it right now

Its definitely possible they won’t make it, but they have the potential to be as high as WC1. Elite D core and goaltending can go a long way.

Go to draft kings and put more than $50 if you’re so confident.

I will be honest with you: I didn't write any notes while i was watching the game because i was on the road the whole time, and typing very fast while my stepmother was reading over my shoulder in the drivers seat would have been hard to explain to her. This will be more of a casual "Post-Game Debriefing" instead of a formal "Post-Game Notes."

I think we can say that we are close to completing the circle of life: Carolina pounded us into the dust last time, and then we kicked the sh*t out of St. Louis. Now we need St. Louis to beat Carolina and the cycle is complete.

I love Yegor Chinakhov. That is all.

A career night for Andrew Peeke, with 4 assists and an end-of-night plus/minus of +6.

I have to remember that the only name that the Blues had that really could do some damage was Ryan O'Reilly. Don't get your hopes too high, man...

Also, sorry for being so late with this. I haven't been on CF until now.

Since everyone is talking about the playoff chances of NYI, I have a scenario that I think has a high likelihood of happening:

Islanders start off slightly sluggish, but get stronger as the year goes on. Sorokin plays lights out in net and NYI is hanging on with PIT and NJD for the wild card, mostly thanks to the aforementioned Sorokin and an improved defense with Romanov and Dobson excelling. As the TDL comes along, Lou makes a couple buys at the deadline, but it isn't for strong talent, but for older acquisitions like Nino Niederreiter and Nick Bonino. After the deadline, the Islanders fall off hard as the defense can't bail out a flailing offense and Sorokin and Varlamov start to fall off after being overworked by bad offense earlier in the season. The Isles end up missing the playoffs by about 5 points as Lou preachs point differential and other random stats and the Isles both miss the playoffs and a chance at Bedard.
