Not OP but frankly your coach doesn't like the kid and your management is exploitable.
Also Kerfoot is an overvalued asset in the NHL (remember that he is a good player and worth his hit).

Lmao. Give me a source the coach doesn't like the kid. That is just the media making stuff up. Bruce Boudreau commented in an interview talking about how Hoglander was one of the best players in training camp. Don't get brain washed by other users here. That is just media stories trying to get clicks. Kerfoot is a pending UFA, whereas Hoglander is 21, an RFA with many more cost controlled years.

Your coach literally didn't play him last year. How does that say "This is a player I want" to you?

He had a rough season, then got injured. You seriously think Boudreau hates Hoglander? Ignorance...

Here is every game he played in last year. DEC 5th is the coaching change. Look at his ice time drop

I think a coach that Liked him would play him more than a 4th liner despite a rough season

Do you not know how hockey works? Why would you play somebody who is struggling, even more time? Especially since we were in the hunt for the playoffs. We weren't a bottom feeder team giving out minutes to just anybody. By the looks of it, Hoglander is fully healthy, had an amazing training camp, and is pretty much locked for the opening night lineup. There is no justification that points towards Boudreau "disliking" Hoglander. You are making up imaginary tales.

You put players in a position to succeed if you want them to. Demoting a guy who regularly topped 17 mins a night to the 4th line doesn't do that. There are punishment games - and then there is a half season long effort to not play the guy. Stop with the copium

"Stop with the copium". Are you 12 years old? If a player is not playing well, you don't reward him with more minutes. Hoglander was demoted because he wasn't playing well. It wasn't just one or two bad games. He was a young player who struggling. He had a tough year but Boudreau has been extremely pleased with Hoglander so far this training camp and pre-season.

If you want a player to play well, you put him in a position where he will maximise his value. See Galch on JT and Nylander's wing for a perfect example. Just sending him to the 4th line is how you destroy players - and coaches know that. Hell even when Mitch or Willy played bad they only got demoted for a game or two and right back up because they know it would be stupid to leave them there.
The reason he is saying he is pleased is because he thought he sucked before - and he isn't sucking as much right now. The dude isn't valued in your org and if he succeeds there it will be in spite of it

Boudreau has never said Hoglander sucks... In fact, he has always talked highly about him, and his potential. He simply wasn't happy with Hoglander's defensive play. Hoglander is a young guy, those things are easy fixes, especially considering the fact that he was great defensivley the season before. Keep being clueless

No coach will ever come out and say a player sucks.
But their deployment of them will tell you exactly that. Time for you to figure out how the league works.

Or you don't throw a player to the wolves when they're not ready for it. It's not about getting the most out of a player when they're 20. It's about developing that player so that you can get the most out of them down the line. Very few players can play top 6 consistently at that age. Willy and Mitch are top end NHLers with high draft pedigree. They are not good comparables. A better comparable from the Leafs would be Nic Robertson. Does Keefe hate Robertson and think he sucks because they demoted him to the AHL?

I think management would be open to moving Hoglander in the right deal but that deal is not for a 28yr old middle six pending UFA.

Playing guys 7 mins a game to develop them isn't the own you seem to think it is

And you admitting that they'd move him just confirms that I am correct in what I was saying

Lol no it doesn't. It just means he's not untouchable. If they were offered a similar potential RHD they'd probably move him. By your logic any trade is because the team thinks their player sucks which is not the case. They make the trade because they think the return has more value. Kerfoot is not that guy.

Also I'm not trying to "own" anyone with my comment. There are plenty of young players around the league that see fluctuations in ice time early in their career. It's all part of development. Does Carolina hate Kotkaniemi because he dropped down to the 4th line last season? No it's all part of the learning process.

Ok. So our coach didn’t play the struggling 20 year old much last year.

Since then he’s called Hoglander the best player on the ice in scrimmages and games, Hogs has done great in the preseason, and he will start the year in Vancouvers top 9.

Or, Vancouver could trade him for an expensive pending UFA that would play on our 4th line when healthy? What a great idea!
