I'm assuming an Islanders team acquiring Timo Meier & Vince Dunn is an Islanders team that is in contention at the deadline - so why do you have them trading away their goalie and bringing up a guy with zero NHL experience to back up Sorokin? After watching the Rangers' path through the playoffs last season, wouldn't you want to make sure you have a somewhat proven backup goalie on standby?

Just not sure Aho, Bellows would have much value.

Not saying theyre fully cooked, but they look pretty meh.

And acquiring expensive RFAs Timo and Dunn, with Barzal, Wahlstrom and Mayfield are RFAs/UFAs is not a smart move, not to mention an old team moving a ton of picks

Barzal's deal is done (8x$9.15M kicks in this summer) so his future cost is locked in. Mayfield *should* price himself off the island in UFA and be replaced by a guy making around what he makes. I'd also argue that if Wahlstrom keeps showing he's made the leap this year (4 points in 2 games is a nice start!), you're not going to need to pay a ransom to get a guy like Meier in.

Acquiring Meier would make more sense if u could move Bailey or Palmieri in the deal. You could center the deal on Beau and Bellows too, since Meier isn’t off to a hot start anyway.

Adding Dunn for Salo makes no sense imo tho

Yeah pretty true, I think even with dropping a couple of the UFAs like Parise, Mayfield, the increase in Barzal AND Wahlstrom probably eat all that, leaving no room really for a good enough increase for timo and dunn. Even in the above, if you let parise, mayfield and soshnikov go, thats just enough for Barzal's increase, but only 2.9 for timo or dunn AND wahlstrom?

And even then if youre contending at the deadline, I cant see moving your backup goalie (look what happened to STL, COL last yr) and Bailey, but overall I could see a move for timo OR dunn but I dont think that timo offer gets close.

Oh yeah, I didn't touch on the value of the Meier/Dunn trades because I was mostly confused why they'd want to rely on Jakub Skarek as the backup goalie on a playoff team. He might be good, sure, but let's not find out at the most stressful/important part of the season if we don't have to!

But swapping Salo for Dunn causes a headache next summer because Salo's already signed for 23-24 at $800K, and Vince Dunn would need a new deal. So making that trade means you have to re-sign/replace Dunn *and* Mayfield instead of just figuring out who plays RD3 next season.

San Jose Trade- To acquire Meier you would have to trade a 1st and a top prospect like Raty which the Isles should not do but other teams with deeper prospect pools can.
Ottawa Trade- They clearly do not want or need Bailey and he will not be traded to at least next offseason when hopefully the cap increase opens up new spots he can go.
Tor Trade- Skarek is an unknown at the NHL level, moving Varly at this time would be a mistake and weaken the team.
Sea Trade- Unnecessary, and potentially horrible trade for the Isles to move Salo who is playing well and developing on the 3rd pair and another 2nd round pick for a player that is just no needed.

So true there is no way Sens take him on, they bought out a very comparable player in Collin White this summer.

Grier says yes but later sees the wrong Sebastian Aho stepping out of the plane and at that moment he knows he's been duped

Immediate no from San Jose. 1st we like, everything else is a massive no. Add a top prospect and the conversation starts
