Is Soucy Available

Created by: PhillyDip123
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 1, 2022
Published: Nov. 1, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just some shake-up ideas, nothing super major.

Goodness GRACIOUS, though, the Leafs need to sign one of their AHL goalies to an NHL contract, having only 2 available to play is not okay. EBUG's only ever work when they play against the Leafs, not for them.

This is obviously assuming Muzzin isn't back this year. I really hope he's alright as a person, he just got back from another injury and immediately goes on LTIR.

I put Murray and Liljegren in the lineup to make sure the cap works when they're back.

I would aim for Murphy, maybe Edmundson. Toronto has plenty of bottom 3 options already.

All signs point to Muzzin coming back, that his neck injury (not head) was going to be a week to 2 weeks, and they LTIR'd him for the LTIR savings (which would have been just above his injury recovery time by 2 games).
So you're still over cap.

As for the trades, PITT says no wityhout TMLF adding, and the deal for Soucy is really bad. SEA gets far better offers at TDL (but TOR cant wait to deadline).

TOR need to move a contract or two NOW.

Murphy is better for sure, but is Edmudson really any better than Soucy (you could be right I’m just not sure) And even if he is, Montreal is going to charge more for him out of Toronto because they are rivals.

Lol what signs? Muzzin may be pondering retirement. You don't go see specialists for fun.

They are all 10000% better than Holl or any replacement for Holl that the leafs have.

Pittsburgh would be stupid to turn down that Kap for Kerfoot swap. Frees up even more money this summer for a bigger UFA.

No there have been signs just none of them seem to be good for Muzz, he’s gonna need to really think about his hockey future

You are going to be disappointed when these no skill plugs come in and do nothing

From what I've heard of Soucy it's been that he's a physical, defensively pretty good guy. With Muzzin injured and Lyubushkin signed elsewhere, there's very little physical presence in front of the net. Holl would be good at that if he wanted to be that kind of d-man, but he's more offensive-minded. While I'm not a Holl hater, the roster needs a move the same way that they needed Lyubushkin when he came in.

It can be the same or not better or worse. But it will cost us a lot to make it happen which makes it unwise. Getting a more expensive player that isn't better is a waste of assets just to make a move.

I don’t disagree. I’m just sick and tired of this crappy team and want them to make a move. That’s all.

Makes sense. The wrong move might just escalate the problem.

It's going to be one of 3 outcomes I think. Unless they start winning.

1) Dubas makes a big trade (if it pans out and they win something then he'll be a hero, if they lose, he is fired)

2) Dubas fires Keefe and the new coach gets the team going

3) Dubas and Keefe get fired and a new regime is brought in

Feels like #2 is the most likely option - Dubas hasn't really had a say in who's the head coach so far (he inherited Babcock & Keefe was promoted when Mike was fired) so part of me thinks that the team gives him the chance to pick his own coach - the problem is if they fire Keefe mid-season, they'll be in the same boat they were a few years ago when they fired Babcock. I think that they play out the year and, barring an actual playoff run, let Keefe go and give Dubas the chance to get "his guy".

I agree with the three options, and I also agree that option 2 is most likely. I’m not anti Keefe, I don’t think he’s a good coach but he’s not a bad one either. I think hiring Trotz to try and get the time going is probably what they’ll end up doing. Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me, knowing Dubas, if they do basically nothing, and he’s gone at the end of the year.

Keefe is absolutely Dubas's guy but I think he's losing the room or just isn't able to get through to the team.
