Terry

Created by: KDev
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 3, 2022
Published: Dec. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is assuming Anaheim can not come to an agreement with Terry. I think Anaheim will do all they can to keep him however, but I wanted an out of the box kind of player that could work for the Devils as a target.

ANA has so much cap space, why aren't they extending Terry?

If they did decide to move him I'm pretty confident someone would offer more than a 1st and an RFA and some odds and ends.

Anaheim views Terry as part of the solution, they wont trade him.

Terry is going to be the next captain of the Ducks. He isn’t going anywhere

If he was it would take a lot more than this

I think they would want a dman involved too. Not Hughes or Nemec, but maybe one of Casey, Mukhamadullin, or Walsh.

Maybe something like Walsh, Gritsyuk, 1st, 2nd

They aren’t moving Terry unless Hughes (Luke) and Holtz are involved as well.

Even then they aren’t moving Terry

Gritsyuk is pretty solid prospect. Probably ends up a Blake Coleman-esque player. Certainly plenty of risk there, but would likely be more than an “extra piece”.

It 100% would be Hughes or Nemec plus a 1st

Terry is 25 years old and has cemented his role as our top line RW, and scoring leader. There is absolutely no circumstance that we consider moving him unless he refuses to resign here, at which point you're looking at something like Debrincat pricing, and the pieces added to make up the difference between a 7OA pick and the ~24th you'll be picking at is going to be substantial.

Don't worry -- we'll sign Terry, especially if it's for that deal. And if we can't sign him for more than two seasons, the price will be Hughes/Nemec plus the 2023 first.

Our GM isn't much a fan of euro players that have no NA experience.

Two things can be true. (1) Ducks shouldn’t trade Terry unless they get franchise-altering piece back (like Hughes or Nemec). (2) Devils would never move either. So 100% would not be those guys.

I would love to see Terry in red and black, but there’s no way Anaheim trades him, unless we say please. And people from
Jersey DO NOT say please

That’s fine, I am just saying he is more highly rated than an “extra piece”.

Honestly don’t know what I was expecting making this one haha but I realize I was off base. I like Terry a lot and I think Anaheim will probably sign long term. It will be exciting to see how the rest of Anaheim gets built around Zegras, Terry, McTavish and the other young guys they have

Ducks fans understandably would want an overpay but I'd gladly move Holtz and a first for him, at least. Some extras, as well.
