They also have two career AHL forwards on recall right now due to injuries. I imagine he's not really an Armstrong player, but turning a dump or waiver claim into assets using retention and playing time seems like an Armstrong move.
Might be worth a swing. Worst case is having to pay him almost six million next year to be on and off IR. Just have to clear it with the bean counters.
