New 3rd Line at TDL

Created by: BC90
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 18, 2022
Published: Dec. 18, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Long time Pens fan from Western Australia and it has become very difficult for me to watch games since ESPN has taken over the rights and NHL Live network no longer available... so take it easy on me.
I know this is mortgaging the future but in my opinion this is what we need to do if we want to contend while the core is around, and suffer the consequences in the future.
I love each of these players and like the balance of skill and physicality they could bring to a pretty lackluster 3rd line.
I don't know anything about cap intricacies, the other teams cap situations and I hear mixed reports on how willing they are to move on from each of these players (and for what return) but I wanted to try and make it work as best I could.
No doubt there is some serious bias in here but keen to hear other peoples thoughts and get a healthy discussion going.

Easier way to achieve this is to trade kapanen and dumo for boeser straight up and call up Ty Smith to replace dumo have boeser replace Zucker and if boeser excels put Zucker on 3rd if boeser doesn't mesh put him on the 3rd and trade him summertime for a DP or prospect to Arizona, Seattle or Detroit

I think this works for the Avs. Dermy definitely gives the Pens some meanness they're lacking. Here in Colorado, I think Englund has shown he's willing to do the dirty Dermy work. The Avs get the faceoff stud they lack and while I proposed a trade for Carter to be 2C a while back and Pens fans told me he can't handle the second line minutes, Compher, ERod and Newhook all have been stepping up lately. If Carter can play 14-15 min a game as a hybrid 2C/3C this could be a really good deal for both. And to answer Coga16 above, with that $1.5M retention, the Avs only take on $637.5k more cap than Dermy (1.625M vs. 987.5K) next year, and even less this year, then Carter is gone. Both contracts expire after 2023-24.

Carter is not a 2c, he isn’t anything close to that anymore, compher is a better option of 2c than carter. He isn’t any better than any of the 3rd line options either, he won’t keep up to the style of play for the avs, his awful defensively too and declining hard

And 650k isn’t insignificant, avs are so tight next year cap wise, carter isn’t worth taking on

“Maybe” from the Sabres imo
Obviously we’d still have to be in the playoff hunt at the deadline to consider this deal
But if we are, i could see something in the ballpark of your suggested potential deal happening

Except if VAN is gonna downgrade from Boeser to Kapanen,
why would the piece they want to do so be a rental in Dumoulin???

Deal doesn’t make much sense for them

I will probably get a ticket for this but go to https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/od1rn/list_of_free_websites_to_watch_out_of_market_games/

I used this search "how to watch nhl games for free from iran" in google and it gave me a list of options.
Scroll down and try the one above.
Good luck my friend and any one else who wants to watch hockey for free.

you gotta understand Jim Rutherford LOVES kap and dumo (he drafted both dumo in Carolina and kap in pit) also they're trying to get out of the term with Boeser which is where kapanen comes in who has potential to be a lower end boeser pure shooter type of player, if not he only has 2 years left... And Vancouver is looking for a defensive dman in return for boeser which is achieved by getting dumo... Basically nobody wants boeser and Van isn't looking for futures and would rather have proven nhl talent... They get a young forward in kap and DD w Dumo... Only problem is Dumo has a NTC... And even though Van is getting an extra 600k they effectively gain 4.1 in cap space for 23-24 when dumo comes off the books...also BBs value is so low that the Canucks gave permission to his agent to negotiate a trade because theyve had no luck at all

I thought about recommending something similar but figured I would get flagged or something for it.

TBH, I haven't seen much of Carter last few years. Probably thinking of old Carter. Dermy's back tonight!

Carter has been just fine as a 3C and he filled in at 2C while Sid/geno have been out…
He will still put up raw stats and should finish close to 40 points this year… he just can’t drive play on his own and needs rlly solid wingers who can grind…

Ofc Rutherford loves those players but he isn’t the GM… Alvin is not stupid and he’s more analytical then Rutherford is… Alvin would want actual assets back… kapanen is a bounce back candidate and dumoulin has a high cap hit and is a rental that maybe VAN could flip to someone at 50% retained for a 3rd/4th…
Alvin would ask for poulin and a high pick added to the trade at least

So he’s not doing fine and needs better teammates to carry him,
