Unorthodox Idea with Raddysh

Created by: Nikolai_Khabibulin
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2022
Published: Dec. 29, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
CHI
  1. Abruzzese, Nick
  2. Hunt, Dryden
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
*2024 2nd becomes 2025 1st if the leafs reach the cup in 2023 AND 2024. Unlikely is the point.
TOR
  1. Raddysh, Taylor ($379,166 retained)
Additional Details:
Raddysh is a quality middle 6 winger on a competitive team, and his contract already makes him a steal but retaining to make his actual cap hit $379,167 for the leafs next year, too is the real value for them, especially as a cap strapped team.
Not sure if this is at all smart for the hawks, but just thought if toews or kane don't want to be traded, it would be an interesting way to use a retain spot.

I'd rather have Raddysh than any of those pieces.

thats just way too much for a player of Raddysh level, hes an ok 3rd liner. Retaining doesnt really add value since 300k doesnt allow a team to add another player with the cap savings, it just gives them more call up flexibility with that type of savings.

It's an interesting idea but he just doesnt move the needle to move solid assets for. Guys like him have hit the waiver wire a few times a year. Teams can just be patient to find one for free

Can't imagine the payoff for retaining 300k would be big enough to use the spot on it.

Seems like a pretty easy no for the Leafs.

They're both rolls of the dice. Does a pick in late 50's early 60's have a better shot at turning into something vs someone finally getting a chance? I'd rather see what TRad can do because he's already proven a ppg pace in the AHL and now has consistent NHL ice time, while under a good contract, WITH RFA expiry status...maybe TRad turns into something more even if it's just for a potential larger trade. To me, that's worth more than a late 2nd and Nick.

Picks 55 - 65 from 2016 are below just to highlight what a roll of the dice that 2nd round pick is. TRad is likely the 2nd best player to come out of that group of 11 players. That's how hard it is to hit on late 2nd rounders

Dillon Dube
Carl Grundstrom

Raddysh is like 40 days from being 25. He is what he is.
And what he is isnt worth anything close to this proposal

I'm not saying TOR is getting an absolute steal nor that they should even do it, but there are lose/lose trades. This might qualify. Abruzzese is 23...and not thrilling anyone. TRad has a better chance of turning into something vs anything being sent to the Hawks. He sat in Syracuse with no place to advance because TBL was stacked.

Abruzzeze and hunt arnt the issue though. Its a conditional 1st that is at worst a 2nd. The hawks make that trade every day for a guy who is maybe an ok career 3rd liner while they're rebuilding

Reaching back to back Cup finals is your issue??? Lets get past the 1st round before taking issue with a condition about back to back cup finals.

Goalies take longer to develop for sure. I mean Woll could even top TRad some day. Hard to say as of today, but I'd take TRad over Grundstrom. Ones trending up right now...the other not so much, but again...neither career is over.
