I do not thi k either team makes this deal.

Wings drafted Raymond and like him and he is cost controlled for several years.

Leaf fans will say Nylander is a better player and they are correct. So it makes zero sense for them to make this kind of deal. Yes Leafs need cap and Wi gs need to get better, but can not see this kind of deal within the division

Leafs are "going for it" this year and next so they keep Nylander. Detroit, keep cost efficient Raymond for years under their control.
But the premise is wrong, Leafs don't need cap space this year, and maybe not next year either.

This is definitely tempting for the Leafs. I think DET is a definite no, due to team control on Raymond, and the fact that he's gonna be a stud (even if he's having a down year compared to last). Leafs say no due to the fact that they are chasing a cup this year............but, if they had another deal in place for a high profile top 6 winger to do at the same time as this, they might say yes.

I agree it makes little sense for either team to make this trade. Nylander is in his prime and The Leafs are trying to win now. Detroit has a few years before they are ready to contend and Raymond fits about perfectly in to that time frame.
