How much is Klingberg worth at the deadline

Created by: Patrickkane
Team: 2022-23 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2023
Published: Jan. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For some reason theres ducks fans on here who think Klinberg will get a 1st or a 2nd + a blue chip prospect so I just wanted t see what everyone thought. I think he gets a 2nd or the prospect equivalent of that tops. Its not 2016, if Klingberg was worth a 1st or a 2nd + a blue chip prospect he wouldve gotten paid instead of resorting to a one year deal in Anaheim because no good team wanted to pay him. Like I dont even know what team would even be interested in him. I dont think he'll be wanted by most teams. Maybe Washington cause Carlson is hurt.

Yeah in a weaker draft and in a year where the top rentals available were Chiarot, Giroux, Leddy, Copp and Rakell. GMs also obsess over guys like Chiarot for some reason. Based on the fact Klingberg had to go to Anaheim on a 1 year deal, its pretty obvious no GM is interested in him.

You see that on puck empire lol? Seems like the Ducks have no leverage. Not many teams interested, high cap hit, better alternatives etc.

JK is a B Option rn, behind: Chychrun, Ghost, Schenn, Edmunson, & Gavrikov. It's a buyer's market.

well no team had cap for him. same things happened to taylor hall, hoffman etc. we are still feeling the cap problem from covid. i dont think its impossible he gets a first but my guess is 2nd +.

The problem I think they will run into is

A) the cap hit is high relative to the field. A bunch of the other potential dmen are mostly in the 2-4 million range so even retained he is a harder fit than most.

B) as someone who is known as a point producer its not a good look that he isnt productive rn. He is terrible defensively so not having his production in line will make things difficult.

I don't disagree he's a B option right now, but one thing he does have against almost that whole group is that he's a right shot. Doesn't change what people will pay for him, but it is a slightly different market than that.

Most teams at the deadline prioritize big, physical, defensive dmen. I can't really think of any team who is in playoff contention right now who should go after an offensive dmen.

I think he gets 2nd + a prospect. I don't think the 1st in the cards for him. Time will tell though!

I’m a ducks fan and I agree that the desired price isn’t realistic right now. That said I think he can have a really good month and net a 1st at 50% retained to a playoff bound team. But as it stands he’s probably worth more along the lines of a 2nd and ‘meh’ prospect, or 3rd and good prospect

If I'm Washington, I'd steer far, far clear of Klingberg. But in terms of what Anaheim could get at the deadline, I think it would be about here, maybe a low prospect (in Washington's case, a Riley Sutter or Kody Clark) instead of a depth guy like Irwin.
