Beneficial 3 Way Due to the Injury to Patches

Created by: Shakabakes
Team: 2022-23 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2023
Published: Jan. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Canes get back Trocheck. Probably one of the only teams he might consider waiving his NMC for. Contract is steep for the Long Term, but he definitely fits better with them. Makes them a lot stronger after the TDL, and fits in perfectly with Patches on LTIR.

Hawks get another 1st Rounder, for a player that no one thought would get a 1st Rounder for at the beginning of the year. And yes, it would be nuts if they sent Kane to Broadway, too. But wanted to focus on this 3 way.

Rangers literally get out from under Trocheck's Contract for nothing. Swap the Pick they got for him with Toews. Swap his Cap hit this year with Toews (after retention). And now get extra Cap space next year during the Cap crunch to lock up Chytil and K'Andre to larger deals.

If Trocheck wanted to go back to Carolina and Carolina was fine with giving him that contract don't you think they wouldve just signed him after last year? As opposed to trading a 1st for him now?

Yeah, that was the one thing I was looking to gauge, more than anything. I knew they really liked Trocheck, and genuinely miss him now. But wasn't sure if they would take on the Contract.

A 1st for this many years of control isn't bad value (albeit, for a player who was very recently on your team). But yeah, it's a long deal.

Didn't know which would win out. Canes loving Trocheck enough to take him back, or not loving him enough to take on that Contract.

Think I can guess the answer now.

Or if Carolina wants a center for the cup run, just deal for Toews directly and they don't have to worry about a lengthier contract.

I swear to god Vincent Trocheck is like the 25th boogeyman for deranged Rangers fans this season.

Over the season they’ve shifted their focuses from Blais to Goodrow to Trouba back to Blais to Halak to Kreider back to Blais back to Trouba to Panarin to Gallant back to Halak back to Goodrow to Carpenter back to Gallant back to Trouba to Trocheck back to Gallant back to Blais back to Trouba back to Gallant to Lafreniere and now back to Trocheck.

Has Tro been bad for rangers? He’s seemed to do fine from what I’ve seen but can’t say I’ve watched a ton.

As for the Canes, they weren’t comfortable with this deal 6 months ago and nothing has changed in that sense. Sure, he was a good fit and you can make an argument we miss him. At the same time the team hasn’t really missed a beat without him. If Patches doesn’t get hurt I doubt the 2C even matters that much with the wingers they have in the top 6. KK has started producing since playing bottom 6 and would’ve gotten a shot with those talented wingers again and Stas has been fine (not putting up points but not terrible either).

Now that Patches is on LTIR I’d expect them to use that cap space to go after an elite goal scorer over a 2C (unless it’s both like a Horvat) and if it’s somebody with term it’ll be somebody younger (Meier if they can get an extension in place instead of his QO?) versus that Troch deal.

Just doesn’t work for canes for various reasons. Could also just deal with Toews directly for less than a first.

Year one of seven-year deal. I imagine he will go through many cycles of "love him"..."hate him"..."love him"..."hate him"...before he goes anywhere.

Trade him for Strome one-for-one

Yep, long term contracts in a nutshell.

Lol…in reality the real boogeyman is Jimmy Dolan….the team’s lousy ownership continues to blindly entrust the team’s fortunes in “Good Ole Boy” Glen Sather- who is way out of tune with the NHL in 2023.

No issue with either Trocheck or Strome….but Trocheck is simply a much better player. if anyone seems to have any buyer remorse regarding Trocheck- it’s probably rooted in the lousy season Panarin is having. Still puts up the points- but is a turnover machine, and actually probably a negative player.

I would say Trocheck > Strome too. That’s why it makes sense to me as a Devils fan.

Only very recently that I'm hearing discontent with Troch because he has been snake bitten....but his game is so much more than goal and point production. There is a lack of chemistry between him and Pan (unlike w/ Strome)...but maybe that's partly up to the $11M man to figure out? And while he's at it...stop the nonsense with the cross ice passes!! The good teams have it figured out how to punish NYR for these turnovers!

I've been stuck on Blais for awhile now, so I think I missed a couple of those transitions, lol.

When the teams are good, there will always be a Boogeyman in NY sports.

Aaron Hicks or Giancarlo Stanton for the Yankees. Kenny Golladay for the Giants. Zach Wilson for the Jets. Evan Fournier or Julius Randle for the Knicks. James McCann during the Season, and Max Scherzer in the Postseason for the Mets.

When things are going well, we always look for our Achilles Heel. Cause when we actually have a shot at being competitive, we always want to fix the main thing we think is holding us back.

Point is- his loosey goosey play has hurt them….I get the fact that he’s a unique talent- and a player that the coach needs to let do what he does. But the good teams….the defensively structured teams- have figured out how to defend him- to the point where he’s a non factor at 5x5 versus teams like BOS, MINN, Islanders, etc. And those cross ice passes which result in odd man rushes going the other way are just killers! I’m not giving up on him by any stretch- I mean, the skill and talent is there…but at some point he needs to adjust his game in response to the way opponents’ defenses have adjusted to him. That’s what really good players do!

Not hard to see how you’re stuck on him….

“No Goals” Blais is about to set a NYR record for most games played as a Ranger w/o a goal.
Meanwhile the guy they traded for him weathered the tough love in NY, showed all signs of a breakout while he was here, and fulfilled these breakout expectations in St Louis- as he has mirror image stats with the winger who might be the most coveted at TDL and is in line for a massive contract come summer.
