New path needed

Created by: MountRoyal
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2023
Published: Jan. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
We just need some uninjured players to finish out the year. Maybe one of Poolparty or Gurianov finds their legs in Montreal and get resigned for a couple years on reasonable deals. Drouin is shipped somewhere, not necessarily Colorado

If thats all it took to get a retained Drouin, the Jets should do that.

I know the Jets have a pretty favorable cap situation, so they might be one of the few playoff teams that would have a place for Drouin.

For most everyone else, he has negative value. Better to spend your cap space on someone that moves the needle more.

Of positions the Leafs don't need to add is LHD or any middling Dman.

This definitely won't happen. Edmunson isn't good and the Leafs don't need LD

I didn’t say Edmundson was good, but this is the price for that type of defenceman at the deadline - Chiarot, Savard, Gavrikov this year and likely Edmundson too.

You are definitely on a new path. Your trades are a lot more reasonable than what we are used to seeing for these guys.

Edited Jan. 23, 2023 at 11:51 p.m.. Reason: Edited for spelling.
For a '25 6th if there is nothing else left on the table then maybe the Avs do that at the TDL but they're more likely to use any cap space on a move for someone to shore up the C position and whilst Drouin has played C in the past I don't think he's a good bet for the 2C slot. He's more likely to be a UFA gamble in the off season if at all.

For sure and I think the Habs would prefer to use their limited retention spots on something more substantial than just for getting a 6th, but if its 3:59 pm on trade deadline day and nothing else is happening for either team, why not? Drouin will almost certainly be no better for the Avs than he is now but there is just enough raw talent that maybe just maybe he finds a different gear on a team with the talent like the Avs.

I certainly wouldn't object at that point and I also wouldn't object to them trying him in free agency if/when he gets there. Galchenyuk-Drouin-Puljujarvi all on 1 mil, 1 year contracts as a 'redemption line' lol.
