2023 TDL and Draft

Created by: HabsFan33
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 23, 2023
Published: Jan. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
SO just trying out some different ideas for this upcoming trade deadline and draft to see what Hugues could do. Still don't MTL will be a contender in 2023-24 but that's ok. One more year of misery for another top 5-10 pick in 2024 and then, look to add UFAs to bolster lineup long term.

Trade timing and thought process in below description.

I also don't think that Drouin will get traded even if they retain half. Obviously, if they manage to trade him then of course the retention on Eddy would be impossible if the other two trades I propose below (Dads & Mony) go through.

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Lavoie, Raphael [RFA Rights]
  2. Wanner, Maximus
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
This is assuming Oilers fall short of getting Chychrun or Gavrikov. MTL still retains half to help EDM cap.

Breakdown for me goes like this:
2nd round pick and Wanner for Eddy
Lavoie for 4th round pick
EDM
  1. Edmundson, Joel ($1,750,000 retained)
  2. 2023 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
trade completed at 2023 TDL.
2.
MTL
  1. Myrenberg, Jonathan [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Not sure that Boston will give up the big package for Horvat so maybe Monahan becomes an alternative. MTL retains half and take back Craig Smith for cap purposes.
BOS
Monahan at 50% retained. Deal done at TDL 2023.
    3.
    MTL
    1. Boqvist, Adam
    2. Luoto, Joona [RFA Rights]
    3. 2023 1st round pick (CBJ)
    Additional Details:
If CBJ trade Gavrikov at the deadline for a 1st round pick, it's safe to assume it would be from a contender where the pick falls in the late first round. This is NOT Columbus' own first round pick but lowest of their first round picks.

I know CBJ fans will roast me for asking for Boqvist but hoping with Jiricek coming soon if they would part with him.
    CBJ
    1. Anderson, Josh
    2. Harris, Jordan [RFA Rights]
    3. Mysak, Jan
    4. 2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
    5. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
    6. 2023 5th round pick (MTL)
    Additional Details:
this deal is done at the 2023 draft prior or during the first round. Harris gives them a great young LHD to play behind Werenski.

Anderson could replace Nyquist in a top 6/9 role.
    4.
    MTL
    1. 2023 6th round pick (CAR)
    Additional Details:
With Patches out for at least the regular season I would think they may want to add a top 9 forward who could help chip in some offence without costing too much.

Just not sure they will pay the steep price for Horvat/Tarasenko/O'Reilly/Meier.

I just think from a MTL perspective, Dads is a better option than Drouin.
    CAR
Dadonov at 50%. Trade happens at TDL.

No, we won't roast you for Boqvist. We know very well he's the one on the outside looking in next season, and he probably is a great add for Montreal for the right price. But what we will roast you on is thinking there's a spot for Anderson here, or that we'd give up even a late first to take him back.

Fair enough! I just thought adding Anderson's size, speed and physical play would be of some help to CBJ. While there is some size on the current roster, guys like Gaudreau, Laine, Voracek, Roslovic, Nyquist, Texier, Bemström, Johnson and Sillinger don't strike me as very physical players. I will be honest and say I haven't watch too many CBJ games this year. I just know that the moment Anderson is traded out of Montreal, he'll score 25 goals/45 pts. But appreciate the feedback. Thanks.

Dadonov is not likely to be the answer at the trade deadline.

It's the contract. We love Andy and would love the player back. But that contract is a dealbreaker. He was traded to avoid having to pay him, essentially, and his playstyle is not one that tends to age well.

Dadonov isn't a replacement for Pacioretty. There's nothing on the Habs that would really interest the Canes right now that isn't named like Cole Caufield... even then he's out for the year

      I liked Mony's game 4+ years ago...
BOS has 4-deep at C now for playoffs (PB-DK-CC & Nosek on IR for just a month, likely back before SM).
Suspect BOS to be in on depth-D and mid-bottom 6 FWD depth come TDL.
