Playoff Roster - Net SPAR Increase

Created by: Rayzns
Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 3, 2023
Published: Feb. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Henrique - +0.9 SPAR
JVR - +2.2 SPAR

Holl - -1.7 SPAR

Net SPAR increase of 1.4

This would be a forward group scare the **** out of me offensively and I don't think is lacking on defense at all.
Line 1 - CF% 23 - 52.7%
Line 2 - CF% 23 - 52.67%
Line 3 - CF% 23 - 51.3% also Kerfoot and Engvall have 38.5 and 35.5 oZS% respecfully!
Line 4 - CF% 23 - 47.8% Kampf and Aston-Reese getting sub 40% oZS% Jarnkrok getting sub 50% oZS%

Potential to test Knies out beside Henrique and Kerfoot before playoffs begin to see what hes got
Trades
1.
TOR
  1. van Riemsdyk, James ($3,500,000 retained)
PHI
  1. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Would add an additional pick or B prospect to get it done, I think more then fair for JVR unless a bidding war breaks out.
2.
TOR
  1. Henrique, Adam ($2,912,500 retained)
ANA
  1. Holl, Justin
  2. Minten, Fraser
  3. 2023 3rd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
Need to move Holl out to make the salary work without involving a 3rd team. Strong belief that as long as Justin Holl is on the Leafs they will never win a cup. Dubas won't trade him but I would.

Id be open to giving the first rounder for henrique and giving a lesser prospect with it. Sounds like I could flip the payments for JVR and Henrique pick wise an get the deals done.

I'd look at his advanced numbers and what the leafs could use it fits so nicely. I feel like the salary retention is work more then a 3rd and Philliy isn't going to roll over to help the leafs I bet it costs a bit more then you'd think.

I'd flip the picks - JVR fully retained shouldn't get a ton more than a 3rd, and getting Henrique fully retained this year + next should be worth a 1st.

I honestly don't think so, salary retention isn't free. The pieces fit so nicely for the leafs, I think it's worth the payment. I'd obviously do it for less if possible.

I defiantly would agree with the 1st rounder in the Henrique deal but I'd switch Minten out then. I think Minten is worth a large amount. Id do like a Hirvonen or equivalent.

I think that if we're going to trade Henrique at all, it would be for a shot at someone bigger than Minten or the third are going to be. So we would want your 2023 first, but there's no need for you to include anything else unless it's to free up a roster slot. (I haven't looked to see how close to 50 you are.)

For JVR it's probably a 3rd/2nd +B/C prospect, maybe the 3rd gets enough.

Trading Holl though and replacing him with Benn (who is often injured) is likely going to be problematic.

More than fair, I'd assume the Ducks still jump on it.

Personally, I'd also kick around the idea of keeping Holl and seeing if you can throw an extra 4th/5th to a third team to double-retain JVR down to $1.75M. Put Benn in the AHL for the last quarter of the year and you can keep Holl - I know some Leafs fans hate him, but he puts up solid possession numbers and is a fine bottom-pair guy. I'd rather have to pull him up into the lineup over Benn or Mete if someone gets hurt in the playoffs.

No they don't, adding slow skaters who used to be good doesn't help

This is fair, deep down I just have 0 trust in Holl to preform in games that matter. I honestly dont see a situation where the leafs win more then a round and he's on the roster. I would prefer someone oother then Benn there but the issue is the salary cap.

"Used to be good"?

You have google and stats available to you why be so ignorant?

He is still good, shelter his skating by putting him with marner (which I did). He probably would fit this team alot better then you'd expect

Ya your right. Holl's numbers are good. I just dont trust him to be on a team that wants to win the cup. I just don't like him. Stupid bias but its my bias. He is better then Benn and Mete, would much prefer an improvement on that position i just don't know if I could make the salary cap work. I've see n double retention trades shut down in the pass by the league but Id be all for trying it to get the salaries down.

Yeah, maybe they need to get a cheaper Holl, and it would be possible if they get a 2nd team to retain a bit on JVR.

On JVR, if he doesn't work out, they could always just put Jarnkrok back there and I'm guessing Knies could be an option to replace him in the lineup.

This is nostalgia. JVR just isn't what you want for the playoffs. He's not good defensively and isn't a good enough skater for the system we play.

Holl is not and never has been anything but a good depth player and has been very solid all year. This is just silly

Flyers are going to eat half of JvRs remaining contract this year even then they are probably not getting a first, let alone send out another piece with him. Oh wait, it is Fletcher so is anyone interested in taking a 2024 first along with him?
