Probably could, but need to have much cheaper depth players...Wood, Tatar, Haula, Blackwood.

Honestly if Meier fell through and Larkin were willing to extend I can get behind this. Though for a pending UFA that is a pretty heavy price

For a sign and trade Larkin you're not even close, Holtz definitely needs to be included in the deal.

That offer is underwhelming and Yzerman will get a far better offer for Larkin should he move him. First off there's zero chance of Larkin waiving his full NTC for NJ. And once again that is nowhere in the ballpark of getting a signed and trade Larkin.

There’s about 30-35 mil in space next summer if I remember right, so it wouldn’t be much of a problem to fit both

Bratt probably gets 8 x 8m and Larkin either 8 x 8.5m or 8 x 9.0m So it's probably going to be real tight.

I used the Timo Meier ask as a baseline. I don’t think Larkin would command much more than that now that we know they’re having issues coming to an agreement

I don’t see any reason Larkin wouldn’t be happy moving on from Detroit to a team on the upswing, after years of mediocrity, when we already know extension talks aren’t going well

It’s in line with the ask for Timo Meier, but instead of a second B prospect, I threw in another young NHLer with upside (Zetterlund)

Larkin will ask for more than 9 to sign with NJ.

Larkin is worlds above Timo Meier, centers always get a much higher returns than wingers just pure fact.

And has far as saying extension talks aren't going well, Who's the source? Larkin himself said that most of the sources claiming that is pure crap and not factual. When they said that he turned down 8 x 8 he said that was a lie he hadn't turned anything down. And why would a native Detroiter who's getting married this summer and plans on making his home full time in the Detroit area. Have any interest what so ever waiving for NJ Detroit is a young and up and coming team. Odds of Larkin committing long term to NJ is 0%

Except negotiations are not going poorly, the media is reporting it that way. If you see the Larkin interview, it really sounds like a deal is close, but they can't agree to something...it may not even be money, it may be Larkin wanting Yzerman to sign Bertuzzi long term (which we know those talks are not going great) or something else like a nmc or ntc.

Personally if i'm Larkin, I don't take anything less than 10 to sign there.

Dude you can't compare wingers with centers, centers will always command a greater return than wingers. Wingers are much more easily replaceable than centers.

Like driving by the dump on a very hot and humid day. It goes by fast, but you also know that you want nothing to do with it.

Guys coming off the cap: Tatar $4.5 (replaced by Holtz ELC), Wood $3.2m (any 4th line ELC), Haula $2.4m (Easy ELC replacement), Severson $4.1 and Graves $3.1 (At least one is replaced by Luke Hughes ELC, other may need actual vet replacement if Nemec isn't ready...or Nemec is in and Luke isn't ready, either one), Blackwood $2.8m (Could be interm ELC of Schmid), and Andreas Johnsson contract is off the books that currently is $2.3m buried.... They have plenty of cap room.

Keep in mind with Bratt, they are going from roughly $5.5m to $8.5 or so, so just $3m, not $0 to $8.5.

Plenty of room there.

We are 2-3 years ahead on rebuilding timeline than Detroit. Skates with Hughes in off-season. It wouldn’t shock me if he waived.

Of course Jack Hughes skates with Larkin in the offseason. Jack Hughes and his family live in Plymouth, Michigan close to where i'm originally from. Of course they're going to skate together. Doesn't mean Larkin wants to play in NJ. Even with Larkin the Devils are nowhere near winning the cup this year.

I doubt Larkin leaves DET…but if he did, I could see NJ as an attractive option for him. Would be playing both wing and center…and likely wants center money. But other than that, It could be a fit.
