I know im not liked for this opinion but Larkin fetches a far better return. Oilers accept pretty easily same with Detroit on the bertuzzi deal.

Not for that garbage is Larkin heading for Toronto, Kerfoot has no value to us. Hirvonen is meh at best. Larkin to Toronto starts with Knies and nothing less.

i know everyone on here is so determined that the leafs have to give up knies in every single hypothetical trade, but its not realistic considering teams could lose him for nothing, if hes traded to somewhere he doesnt wanna play he can literally adam fox them☠️☠️☠️

Lmao.

Larkin would get something around the Horvat return. OP is pretty close to that here. Plus NMCs consistently have proven to mean lower trade returns

My friend told me that DET needs to move on from Larkin and get a true 1C, but IDK. DL May not be that but they can’t get anyone better at the moment besides maybe PLD.’

I think Knies over Hirvonen would be closer to the Horvat return. Maybe another smaller piece added since the Isles pick will be earlier (but also depends on what you think Beauvillier’s value is)

So he will not command what Horvat got, is what you are saying? Or what most are saying on this site lately.

Well looking at the stats, Horbavt other than this season has had about thr the same stats playing with better players. Wings were in a rebuild for most of Larkins years and now seem to be emerging. Too say Horbvat is so much better, I just do not see it. Slightly better sure ok it is a matter of opinion. But to say Horvat is this tip line player and Larkin is at best a 3rd line center is funny.

laugh Once again Horvat was traded from the Western Conference to the Eastern Conference, Larkin would be traded within the division hence a greater return. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. If Allvin/Rutherford had traded Horvat to Seattle the ask would've been far more greater than being traded to the islanders.

Frankly getting sick and tired of the Horvat comparison for Larkin, They're under two different circumstances.

Knies is ranked in the 20s for top NHL prospects.. Atay was ranked in the 40s. A closer option would be Nick Robertson.

The Isles pick will also be a lot earlier than the Leafs pick though. That arguably makes up the difference

Robertson at this point isn’t much more than a reclamation project. I’d think Minten or Niemela are closer than Robertson if Knies is 100% off the table

I agree, Larkin's return should be similar than Horvat's. But how is this trade similar in anyway? Räty > Hirvonen, Wings retain a lot of salary here, Beauvillier is young and has term on his contract > Kerfoot doesn't bring any value to the Wings, Canucks gets a better 1st round pick than what Detroit gets. Just a bad trade all around.

Why would Inter-division make a big difference for a rental trade? The wings won’t be seeing the Leafs in the playoffs this year and the Leafs would have a heck of a time signing Larkin long term. Maybe they’d make them add an extra late pick for the “divisional tax”, but the wings would take the best offer available who cares from where. That’s if they even decided to move him. My opinion is Stevie Y will keep Larkin into the summer and sign him.

If Yzerman even considered moving Larkin to Toronto, rental or not the offer would be 50 times better than this. Yzerman isn't moving Larkin without it being a massive overpay. That's already been reported. Yzerman only moves Larkin for a huge haul.

Is Bertuzzi healthy? Think that would play a decent role in deciding if giving up a 1st is worth it.

I mean a pretty close comparable just happened with Horvat. That will set the market for a rental 1st line player at the deadline. Hirvonen definitely wouldn’t be the prospect in the deal, it’d have to be a better one. Especially if it’s the 2024 1st. But the framework would be similar to Horvat, 1st, A-/B+ prospect, and a pick or young NHL roster player. I agree, I don’t think he moves him.

If Larkin makes it to FA, chances of him signing with Wings is very low imo. Stevey Y is treated like some kind of genius but he’s built a pretty meh wings team; think the pressure will mount. Larkin’s off hand comment was not without intent; I think he was letting wings mgmt know who is driving the bus right now & it ain’t Stevey Y. Referencing the Leafs just made it even more notorious

Gotta take a break from your relentless homerism for a minute; everyone agrees Larkin most likely to re-sign with Wings but his off hand comment (referencing Leafs of all teams) was a direct shot at Stevey Y imo “ pay me what I’m worth or I walk; and I decide if / where I go at TDL - I have a full NTC “.
Larkin is driving the bus not Stevey Y. Huge risk to let him walk to FA but time will tell.
Inter division trade is moot point (other than your seeming hate for the Leafs), he’d be a pure rental for most teams so you trade him where you get the best return. Similar return to Horvat

I don’t think it means he’s getting trade to the Leafs but dude has been in the league a long time - must have known the firestorm he’d start, especially referencing the leafs. I think he’s frustrated with contract negotiations and just letting everyone know that he has options and he holds the hammer (pending FA with full NTC).

Or perhaps it was a just comment on how it was nice to be on a line with a skilled passer.. Larkin has never had someone in Detroit that was on that level (outside of 1 year with Datsyuk) and hes just making an innocent comment about it.

I think Larkin and Horvat are indeed very comparable players, however I would not say Horvat got to play with better players. He spent the majority of his career stapled to the likes of Loui Eriksson, Jake Virtanen, Sven Baertschi, and Tanner Pearson
