Would have to say yes that that obviously. You could proabably remove Rosen and the second and still have the best offer.

I like Quinn alot

Sabres shouldn't be acquiring Meier. They may/may not even makes the playoffs with him, and even if they did, unlikely to win a round. Meier is going to get UFA money this summer. Sabres can spend that cap on a true UFA, and keep all those young assets proposed in the trade.
Really nothing in it for the Sabres to spend so much on an expensive RFA, and I would most teams are in the same situation. IMO, San Jose really doesn't many suitors for Meier this season.

I would rather part with Rosen and next year’s first and keep Quinn. Of course, that’s because everyone values Quinn more anyway. But I don’t really think it’s worth parting with so many assets for a guy who could walk away in a year.

Only on CapFriendly. Few teams can take on his cap for next season without dismantling their team. Let's put it like this....if traded, the Sharks aren't going to get the haul they expect (as posted on this site)
Actually Meier's trade value might be just as good at the 2024 TDL. If he's signed a long term contract, teams will know what he the cap implications are. If he's an upcoming UFA, well more teams can bid for services as they don't have a long term cap commitment.

Dude. Nobody signs a guy for 7 years and then trades him the next year. Lol. Why don't you try thinking about how perfect he'd slot in beside Cozens for the next 7 years, without the Sabres having to compromise too much rather than worrying about what Cap Friendly people say on average. The guy is an average 60 to 70 point per season the last five years in a row with great analytics.

First,
we already have more good young prospects than we could
get into our lineup- There’s only so many spots, so why not
package some guys to get a stud like Meier??

Second,
Assuming we could get any UFA we’d want to sign with us (which is a big assumption)- who exactly should we sign that’s better than Meier??

I don't know if you're writing to me. What illusion are you under that Meier is signed for seven years. He's signed for half a season, and has 1.5m years till UFA. Now he may or may not sign an extension this month. But that is awful price for the Sabres to pay, for half a season of Meier (and still miss the playoffs) and then pay him his QO for one year.

I don't think it's a big assumption that UFA would want to sign with the Sabres. A upcoming team, with cap, in the East. The question still is. "Getting a stud like Meier. He is still only under the Sharks (or Sabres) control for 1.5 years .

1- still didn’t answer exactly what UFA we should sign

2- it’s been reported the Sharks would likely let teams talk to Meier to work out a contract extension

OK work it out....but until then he's a RFA. Yep that changes his value in a trade. But until that happens the trade posted is way too high for Sabres to pay for a RFA.

Yep there isn't that many UFAs available in the same realm as Meier. Pasta, Larkin. How about Patrick Kane, who will cost less than Meier, shorter term, and don't have to give up assets.

And there certainly are lesser wingers available. Leafs would love to resign Bunting but don't know if they have the cap. Gee for 5.5m you get a player who have 20 to 25 points less than Meier but don't cost anything to obtain.

In a cap strapped UFAs will be looking for contracts., and I do think the Sabres are becoming a nice to place for some UFAs.

Larkin unlikely as well

I don't think Quinn would be involved. Would think the Sabres would like to put Quinn on a line with Timo.

No team is going to give a haul like that without having a extension in place, see the NYI and Horvat. How long after the trade did a contract get done and Horvat could of walked after this year.
Lou can say "to long and to much money" but it was said with a smile. I'd bet Kevin Adams knows what it would take to sign Meier but it's more about what he has to give up to get him and I still think he wants to get one more solid draft in.
You can get a lesser player but Meier brings something we neither have on the roster or in the system a power forward. Tuch is the closest we have to it. He brings size also which is another thing the forward group lacks both here and in the system. I don't think Quinn is included but Ostlund would be the perfect candidate as we are set at C1 and C2 for the next 7 years. Savoie and Kulich could play center also.
