Interesting idea

Description
Had this idea after rumors about Sevo being on the trade block have surfaced.

Severson goes nowhere without an overpay. I think a 1st round pick and a body to fill the void makes sense. I think Severson makes sense for the Sens if they can sign him long term. There might need to be a stronger protection on the pick and maybe something else going there way to make the deal more palatable though. The team doesn’t necessarily need to be the Sens acquiring Severson, it could be a team more likely to make the playoffs in which case the Meier deal involves them getting the better of the 2 picks and the Roy deal getting the worse of the 2 picks.
Devils get a second 1st in the draft for 2 reasons. One a higher pick can certainly be more enticing for SJ in which case maybe we can avoid giving up a guy like Holtz, Muk or Casey..

The 2nd pick they use to aquire Nick Roy out of Vegas. His term and AAV is perfect and he would immediately give us a legit 3rd line.

So we give up Severson and in all honesty, our 3rd pair suffers dramatically but we get the top 6 scorer we all covet as well as giving us a legitimate 3rd line for years to come as well. Our forward core is pretty much locked up and all that would need to be fixed is the defense and backup g in the off-season.

EDITS:
Ottowa trades their 2023 1st top 12 protected.
SJ gets the better of the 2023 1st round picks and Vegas gets the later one.
If Ottowa has their 1st protected, SJ can choose NJs 2023 1st, 2024 1st, or Ottowas 2024 1st.
If SJ chooses NJs 2023 1st, Vegas receives NJs 2024 1st

The Sens would probably move a 2024 1st or just make it lottery protected . Even top 16 is a lot to give up for Sevo

Yeah that’s fair after putting all together top 10 seems way to low so it would have to be closer to what you’re saying

These Meier trades are getting worse, it definitely starts with a top prospect and a pick. Less quantity and more quality in this case would 100% get you Meier. Holtz, 1st and Blackwood probably gets it done.

Hughes is a LHD, would ideally need a RHD as a replacement for sevo

I made some edits to the conditions. Also failed to remember SJ is up against the contract limits so we would probably have to swap Walsh or Ohotiyuk with an uncontracted prospect.

Meh…Giving back the 3rd makes this a net loss to me. Roy is locked up at a great price for the next years and works here. We get worse and while we gain a first in reality it’s probably only about 45 spots in the actual picks. I’d keep the more proven player that we know fits here

The 3rd was to balance Boqvist going back. I felt Roy for a 1st seemed fair and Boqvist for a 3rd but maybe if we made it a 4th that might look better

Would you feel comfortable sticking him on the right side in his first taste of NHL hockey going into the playoffs?

I think he once said he is more comfortable on right side, so yeah, maybe.
Either way, he will be a rookie and will do rookie things.

Friedman just said before the Sharks consider negotiating with another team that they want the "final shot" at acquiring him. It's not going to be cheap. Period.

Maybe…if Severson is truly made available…it’s to meet a price for Meier. For example, (and using Ottawa as example here…but would probably be team with later pick)…

Severson to OTT for 2023 1st
Both OTT + NJD 2023 1sts to SJS for Meier

Question would be…who has their 1st on the table for rental dman.

Why the hell would San Jose take depth players for a top line player? No A prospect, not even 2 B prospects. This isn’t good

I like the framework for the Severson trade, but as @Csick mentioned their first in 2024 (with reasonable protections) would make more sense for them.

I'm not convinced Roy is an upgrade on Boqvist for the role 3C role.
Boqvist's overall game is very underrated, his defence value added is quite strong (70th percentile according to JFresh) and he's got bonafide middle six toolkit with his skating, hockey sense and puck handling.
Meanwhile Roy seems to be struggling a fair bit this year, especially compared to previous seasons.
I wouldn't want the Devils to do this trade, though they might do it IRL given how underappreciated Boqvist is by the organization.

That's not enough for Meier.
One of Walsh or Okhoituk would likely be have to swapped out for one of Casey or Mukhammadulin for the Sharks to bite.

Dorion better not be trading the Sens 1st in 2023

Sens have plenty of assets, not going to use that chip to get Severson as an incoming UFA
