Jeannot Trade gives Blackhawks leverage

Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 27, 2023
Published: Feb. 27, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This trade is very similar to Giroux's trade last year. It would seem like the Rangers have all of the leverage in the trade and wouldn't have to give up a 1st round pick for Kane. However, the Jeannot trade just made the Lighting even better.

Reminder that Tampa, Carolina, Boston, Rangers, Leafs, Devils are in the East and 2 of those teams won't win a series this year.

The Rangers are the weakest team out of all of those teams and the hawks should use that as their leverage. They don't have to trade Kane and could keep him if they want. Without Kane I don't see the Rangers having a chance at beating any of the teams in the first round. The Rangers window to win is now and they should go for it with Kane.

I think we need to consider that Poile found a sucker and most GMs realize that.

All the GMs around the league are laugh at JBB on the Jeannot trade, He massively overpaid for Jeannot. The same can't be said with Patrick Kane and his ailing hip.

I'll agree with you that might be a fair trade for both teams. But to say that Rangers window is"now" isn't really accurate. Rangers have most of their core signed to NTC long term contracts.

Agree with you that some good teams in the East are going to lose in the first round.

FWIW, I think the Kane trade was done before the Jeannot trade...just waiting to announce for cap reasons. Its doubtful that a 1st is going back...although I wouldn't be surprised to see a 2nd, with conditions to a 1st (if Kane plays 50% and NYR make Cup final). And I think more than a 5th will be required to bring Zona into this deal

I don't agree with that. Rangers have Shesty in net. I'd rate them behind Boston, Carolina and Tampa but ahead of the Devils and Leafs. And I'd probably pick the Rangers in a playoff series against Carolina just because of the goalie matchup.

But it's all subjective.

No it doesn't. Patrick Kane is a franchise legend, 34 and on a NMC. He's picked his destination. The Rangers wouldn't be managing the cap the way they have the past few days if the Kane deal wasn't a certainty. Tarasenko was originally chosen due to the high price, Kane got pissed, the Hawks lowered the price to something the Rangers would prefer, now here we are. smile

I hate that Chicago is getting virtually nothing for Kane. But imagine how excited the Rangers players will be seeing Patrick Kane in a Rangers jersey. What a boost heading into the playoffs.

The return is 100% gonna be frowned upon by Hawks fan. Multiple reports have said this. You’re not getting a first or a big prospect. The best you could hope for is a conditional first in ‘24. A SCF appearance type thing. You have negative chance of it being a guaranteed ‘23 first. Beside that, the Kane deal has already been agreed on (last week) and will have nothing to do with the Jeannot return

Dont be mad at me, I didn’t write these reports 😉

Blinders. Jeannot is a Goody, Hagel... multiple year rental type deal, not a 30 game hipless wonder type deal at all

What a surprise, the Jeannot trade had literally no affect on the Kane trade.
