Leaf fans talk to me on Engvall

Created by: joshelkin
Team: 2022-23 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2023
Published: Feb. 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What’s the scouting report. Isles could use another guy who can skate. Engvall seems to be able to do that? Scoring touch? He won’t be asked to do too much here. Expecting a 3rd line role

Good skating bottom 6 player, big but won't play like he is, can chip in ~15 goals and play good defensively

Solid 2 way 3rd liner, better shooter than play maker, better defensivly than offensively, can fill in at c if needed but mostly plays wing and has good speed. Puck goes in the right direction when he's on the ice
Main knock, and primary reason most leafs fans hate him is that he isnt physically despite his frame but he doesnt shy away from contact

Isles have guys who can bang the body. Honestly more happy with the chipping in goals and good defensive game. More of what the Isles need depth wise. I imagine Lou extends him as he does with every trade he makes. I’m pretty happy with this

Put him with someone who can pass pretty good and he'll pop in 15 goals easy fro. The 3rd line, more if he gets 2nd power play time. He spent most of his time in Toronto with guys as gifted at offense aa david kampf.
Im excited for him to suddenly be "good" and not a pay to dump guy now that hes not a leaf

He will frustrate you. He’s huge and apparently strong as an ox but he doesn’t play physical in any way. He can skate well and score the occasional goal but don’t expect a ton. He’s got tools but doesn’t seem to be able to put it together.

One reason Engvall, doesn't hit as much as Neanderthal Leaf wants, is because he one of few bottom enders that can actually stickhandle in tight quarters. Most other 3rd or 4th, throw the puck in the corner and then try to retrieve it, which adds to their non productive hit count.
Engvall, good skater, stickhandler, creative enough though not a so much of a scoring touch.....but good enough for 15 goals a year. Fine defensively. Good value at 2.2m.
