Description
- It's cup or bust this season. We have loaded up and the cap situation is tough going into next season. I'm not saying that we are going to be bad but no one should expect this season to carry over. It's not going to be a "rebuild" but a year to retool seems likely. I don't think Zacha can be a 1C on a Stanley Cup roster... Im aware of that.
- Priority #1 after this season is getting an idea of what the future looks like down the middle. Holloway seems like someone Edmonton could afford to move and I've seen that they like Grzelcyk. Let Holloway play on the wing but maybe he could be part of he future in the middle
- We are going to have to rely on a lot of youth with the current cap situation, Lohrei is probably not ready to play regular consistent NHL minutes I know that.
- I haven't gotten to watch Holloway too much but I like his game, I don't know exactly what the price would be for him is that trade fair? Does he project as more of a winger or center as he continues to develop?
- I've made this Monahan move before, I really like him I loved him in Calgary and I think he would recover at least some of that game playing here.
- What are some other targets that the Bruins could/should look at acquiring for the future 1C?

I think the move on LD is to move Grizz, as you did, and put Ahcan in his place. Very similar capabilities in the way of puck moving and better power play QB capabilities. Sign a 800K or less 7D, let Lohrei play AHL full time.

Keep Lauko. That package doesn't get Holloway anyhow and Lauko can play third line if needed instead of Holloway. I'd run the lines:

Marchand-Monahan/FA Center-DeBrusk (Keep Marchy-JDB chemistry, I like the fit of Monahan)
Lauko-Zacha-Pastrnak (Czechmates lite)
Hall-Coyle-Lysell (Keep Hall and Coyle together, let Lysell learn from two vets with different skill sets)
Frederic-Koppanen-Hathaway (Gritty line, I like Beecher as the 4C and think he's ready but Koppanen impressed me in his NHL stint and face-offs are ridiculous)

Ahcan-McAvoy (Grizz lite with McAvoy, Grizz-Mac works so why not try this)
Lindholm-FA RD (I like Mayfield as a fit but split Lindholm and McAvoy to maximize both's usage and touches)
Forbort-Carlo (Gives Bruins big 3 defensemen their own pair to anchor, shutdown pair that plays similar minutes to Lindholm/FA RD)

Achan plays over Lohrei. I think you're looking at moving Coyle or Hall as well, mainly because Beecher does not make the jump to the NHL next year and that Freddie and Swayman deal is short on money. You need the extra cap to bring in some bottom/middle 6 help and another guy on D.

I think we can kick the can down the road for another year and Bergie comes back again. I don't think we see a true 1C replacement for 3-4 years, or until management gives up on Harrison/Poitrias and trades for one. I think Merkulov is the closest to being a top 6 player other than Lysell but I'm not sure if he's best suited for wing or center, he plays both.

EDM has insufficient reason to pursue Grzelyck given their recent addition at LD, their cap situation, and their exisiting depth chart. They have even less reason to do so at the cost of Holloway. Easy pass.

As for dumping Reilly, I imagine it would cost more. Probably closer to a 3rd.

Nobody takes on a $3M cap dump for a 5th round pick

Absolutely not. San Jose isn’t trading a posisble 1st round pick, or even a 2nd round pick, and a 3rd while rebuilding. That’s just insanely stupid.
