Or Winnipeg offers up 18 or 27 million and buy up a year or two of ufa years, then retains if they aren’t contending after a year or two, somebody still coming with 7 or 8 years and 7 to 9 million per in sometime down the road. Jets have no real need for anyone left handed on the blueline and an out for the year dvorak with term has also moved down the list. Jets need either picks or team control youth, and a possibility of winning the trade. Guessing game at this point

Who's says he even walks to you in the first place eh? I can say I want to play for a team and be open to other destinations. It's all in Dubois' hands and money and the ability to win triumph location. So good luck hoping he makes it to ufa for 1 and 2 that he signs with you at all.

Winnipeg trades him to Detroit as all along he wants to play for an original 6 as Detroit is willing to pay for what he is worth

    In turn, MTL gets screwed

To be competitive with the other offers Winnipeg would get a few changes need to be made.

Take out Dvorak. He has a knee injury and is a 4C on Winnipeg. He has negative value to the Jets

Harris is a LHD and is the last thing Winnipeg needs, so he has zero value to the Jets. Change him to Beck.

AX has no value to Winnipeg.

Add Roy and with the above changes you might be competitive with the offers Winnipeg gets.

Think along the lines of offering what Horvat or Meier got as a minimum.

The offer as is it stands wouldn't be competitive at all, so or would be an easy no from Winnipeg.

Problem with that is, he's made it public that he has an interest to go to Montreal.

This hurts his trade value to any other team, as they have to consider him a possible rental as he could very well walk on July 1, 2024

Which in turn, hurts the Jets receiving anything of proper value for him, unless there's a sign & trade or the receiving team being given the opportunity to pre-negotiate with him.

He controls what type of contract he's willing to sign over the next few months, if he signs a 1 year deal, he's all but gone then.

Montreal shouldn't offer sheet, because then they open themselves up to retaliation similarly to when they did Carolina.

Unfortunately, Winnipeg has very little say in any of this.

PLD dictates the term of his next contract,

Other teams, may be wary of trading for him given his agent publicly stated he wants to play for Montreal, because without term, he could very well walk, so, without an agreement or negotiation done before hand, his value drops to any team not Montreal.

If his value drops to all teams, then it drops for Montreal too. (logically)

My opinion, is, PLD signs a 1 year, if the Jets are in a playoff position, they have to keep him to give themselves a chance, and possible lose him for nothing, if they aren't, they ship him to a contender and get a 1st and a decent prospect

Then he hits FA in 2024, and Montreal offers him 7x8.5, if he doesn't like it, he can walk.....

What I said was tongue in cheek. Any trade thats worth something would be a sign and trade but what MTL fans on here are trying to trade him for is what I one year rental is worth anyways

Actually Winnipeg has all the say since he is a RFA.

He has NEVER said or intimated that it is Montreal or bust, so there are likely many teams where he will extend. Keeping his value up.

It's pointless to entertain highly unlikely scenarios at this point.

Considering that two of the four pieces offered have negative and no value to Winnipeg and that the Jets can keep him and trade him at the TDL and get a better return than this. Which makes this offer an easy no without the changes I suggested.

There's just no reason for Winnipeg to give Dubois away for a worse than TDL value offer.

I don't see a need for the Habs to even trade for PLD at all. Just wait till free agency in 2024, if he wants to come, Habs will be more than willing to sign him but until then they are still rebuilding...

Getting PLD a year early, speeds up the rebuild for no reason, costs the team more in salary and assets, all for what exactly? Nothing.

No offer sheets. No trades. No ultimatum's. Just be patient and let it happen organically.

Totally agree. No need to sell the farm, even if it means that Dubois signs somewhere else in the end.
Without Dubois, our top6 could still look pretty solid :

So, its unrealistic for the jets to take a bad return for Dubois just so he can go home. Both are equally unrealistic as the jets will take the best deal mtl or not.

You can't trade him if you match our OS soooo? You take the '24 1st & 3rd or you match the OS and he's a UFA after next season and you get nothing? Anything above the '24 1st & 3rd is generous.

I'm well aware he's worth a lot, but that isn't gonna matter here. You don't have to like it, but nobody has to offer you anything. We can force your hand so-to-speak where you either match the OS and go for the push next year (again) knowing he's UFA afterwards, or you don't match and take the 1st & 3rd and lick your wounds.

You don't have him under contract, and he doesn't want to sign long term there. Not sure why that's so hard to understand...

just a gentle pushback: has PLD gone on record saying he absolutely won't sign long-term in Winnipeg? Because as far as I can see he's never shot the idea down. As non-committal as he might have been about it, I will remind you of the immortal words of the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase: "Everyone has price."

Ahh yes bc Dubois will take no long term deal, and 2 mill under his value just to help Montreal with an offer sheet.

Him specifically? I don't think so. His agent has been the one to start that rumble. However, that narrative does also line up with the fact he didn't sign anything long term. Nothing is certain but there's just as much of a chance that it happens as I've described as there is that it happens any other way. The issue I have is the discounting of how MTL is coming at it and that there is no reason whatsoever to trade exponentially more than what we would have to send for an OS.

We don't have the behind closed doors information, if the intent is to be in MTL then that heavily dilutes any offers for PLD. Chychrun is worth more than he went for (imo), situationally he returned less. Debrincat again worth more than he went for (imo), situationally returned less. Kane worth more than he went for (imo) and situationally he went for less. Fiala's return was underwhelming for his rights.
Horvat would be a comparable but that was a situation different than the one that arises here. Moral of this point is it doesn't have to be accepted by fans or even liked by fans for it to be a legitimate possibility. If some other team is willing to pay more for his rights to accept the risk he potentially walks from them as a UFA anyway, have at it.

MTL would OS him @ 6.3/1yr and then sign him to a max extension in Jan for 9.5+/yr and he then gets locked into his hometown team for 9 years and gets the payday he's after. Again, idc who likes it or not but it's a very real possibility and it's one MTL could have to control over (also works best for them). When it comes down to it, there is no rush for MTL to offer the farm and our 1st born child when we won't be seriously competitive for 2-3 years minimum.

If you don't see the ignorance in your comment I can't help you. 6.3 is higher than his QO, and MTL is his hometown team. Not to mention we would then sign him to a max extension @ 9.5+/yr first chance we got.

MTL would OS him 6.3/1yr and then sign him to a max extension in Jan for 9.5+/yr and he then gets locked into his hometown team for 9 years and gets the payday he's after.

Not to mention we would then sign him to a max extension 9.5+/yr first chance we got.

Point of order, you'd have to wait until next year's trade deadline for an 8 year extension.
In order to qualify for 8 sooner, you'd have to do a sign and trade.
The player must be on your reserve list as of the most recent trade deadline to qualify for an eighth year.

As in this years or has to be on the roster through next years TDL and sign him to 8yrs once it has passed?

Reserve lists are submitted at the trade deadline every year and the player has to be on that list at least once to qualify.
PLD wasn't on Montreal's list for the deadline which just passed, so he has to be on their list at the deadline next year to qualify for 8.
If we trade for his rights or sign him in UFA after that, there is no 8th year option.
    Hope that was clear enough?
