Detroit declines. Player not needed and not worth anything close to that value.

Yes. They should be selling assets like Backlund at the TDL for a draft pick haul. They have 6 UFAs they can deal for huge returns!

PS Im awaiting the geniuses to criticize the fact you have only 22 players. That normally is the go to for an ACGM that makes sense but ppl need to be negative here, mostly.

If Washington is moving Mantha, I doubt they’ll retain any salary since they’ll be going for a top 6 forward as a coinciding move and they’ll need the cap space for that player + Fehervary and Alexeyev.

Why?
Your GM's made some drastic changes that can still pay off.
You just need to actually build around them not just get them and go "ok done"
If you added to a already strong team that's one thing but you just replaced what you lost.
You've still made no forward progrsss outside getting Toffoli who's just great (and if you're ever trading MTL wants him back)

CGY needs to make an impact trade with Backlund also clear room for Coronato
Coronato player tandem Center role as his teams top line was 3 primary wingers
Farrell was the Shaw to Coronato's version of Danault but at the NCAA level.
Use Backlund to acquire him a Faceoff Winger who can help him grow as a Center like Mikael Granlund ( i think its the right Granlund, the good one anyways)

Granlund + Coronato = Backlund

Also from an outside POV N.Ritchie-Lewis-B.Rithchie just seems like such a physical 4th line , just throwing it out there as thats Sutters style .

Mangiapane is not worth that anymore. He makes way too much for what he produces even though I like him as a player.

Agreed.
Imagine the return at the TDL had they dealt Backlund when Granlund got value and no good centres available

I'd much rather keep Mang than acquire Mantha. Picks won't help us win games any time soon

It's very easy to under value Mang based on his stats this season, but he brings a lot more to the Game of Hockey than just Goal Scoring and is considered the "Perfect NHL Winger" by many. Only way we Trade Mang is if we get decent value for him to bring in a better, more reliable Star Player. The guy would have 20-30 Goals already, if not for terrible puck luck, bounces and fat posts this season

Might be okay with Ritchie as a Lucic replacement, but as a 13th/14th Forward. I prefer Brett over Nick personally, but both on a 4th line might be interesting as stated above and I certainly hope we find a better option than Stecher for 3RD, he's a fine 7th D-Man option, but I'm not convinced he's better than Stone, Gilbert or Meloche. A Big Mean Penalty Killing Specialist like we had in Gudbranson has been sorely missed

Hopefully Matthew Coronato does sign as well, we could definitely use him at C or RW

Guys they could consider selling high on are Hanifin, Zadorov, Tanev and Toffoli. Make Backlund the Captain and he'll re-sign on a Team Friendly deal to finish his career and retire a Calgary Flame. Move Kadri to the Wing already too, he's a - minus player at C, but plays well from the RW. He could easily be our Matthew Tkachuk Replacement there

Bringing in Jonathan Drouin for Cheap might be good for Huberdeau, Pelletier and our Power Play. He can't shoot great anymore, but he can still Pass & Play Make and Plays Centre too. Might be a Good, Young, Low-Cost Project and Mentor. Might be able to get Jonathan Quick, Connor Brown and/or Max Pacioretti on Value Contracts as well if/once we Trade Vladar or Toffoli and if Coronato doesn't sign

Pointing out a short roster doesn't necessarily mean negative, it just means you might have room to improve your outlook.
If the difference is small enough and can be nickel and dimed with contract adjustments, that's one thing.
Same if you can run a shortened roster for a limited period of time and accumulate cap space.

With less than $100k in cap reserves and no significant signings, that's a flaw worth addressing. It can be done constructively.
It's the 20 man rosters with no cap space remaining that are the issue. You can't complete a picture by cheating an extra $2.5M out of the cap.
