We'll offer him 1.8M - we can still afford 2.9M for a prove-me year

Yeah. It's definitely worth exploring. If MTL has the space, why not? At 25 years old, he could still be a nice long term piece or maybe even a lucrative trade chip for next years deadline.

I would say he's streaky. Depends if they want him in a top 6 or bottom 6 role.

I would not want him in my top 6 long term. Does he have enough defensive play to play on the 3rd line?

Yes he has, since coming to the Habs he is scoring at a 40+ point pace, Montreal has the cap space and can wait to see if Gurianov has turned the corner. As far as Gurianov goes, he is a former 12th OVA pick with good speed, size and shot, he has all the tools to become a top 6 winger.

He's earned a contract, not one at his QO price though

Yes, no reason not to sign him. We have space on the roster next season likely and might be able to trade him at next deadline if he performs.

I’m going to say No. who doesn’t want a 6’3” 205 lbs fast skater? The problem is he disappears for several games after a good one. Last night in buffalo, he was a passenger.

Many are talking about RHP & rightfully so, but Ylonen has 12 points to RHP 8, in the last ten games, then add the injured players and do Habs really need another Armia?

I doubt he'll accept anything but the 1 year you're offering , he's owed arbitration as his 17 pts in 58 games isnt that far off Armia's 22 pts in 62 games.
If Gurianov matches that in the remaining 8 games left then he could get a healthy pay raise like Armia who went from 2.6m to 3.4m after Arbitaration
MTL would have to offer him a 1 year deal at 3m allowing him to rebound and a way out to a contender if he becomes pushed out by the youth.
It also allows him to re-visit arbitration with better numbers which is still good for us because the more he succeeds the more we can move him for quicker.

Gurianov is not a very good hockey player. Sure he has skill and a good shot so he leaves an impression with some flashes but his overall game is pretty bad. I doubt MSL doesn't see that. I would much much rather have Hoffman at a higher cap hit

Has he earned a QO? Sure. Should MTL offer the QO? Jury is still out. The only reason I would QO him would be to trade him at next years' deadline, other than that he's just a placeholder imo.

Ylonen's a mirror of his dad, no team building a contender will invest in him
Nor has he shown the consistency to demand it .

RHP has 5 points in the last 10 games including a Hat Trick
Ylonen has 7 points in the last 10 games

Both scored 4 goals with Ylonen getting the edge with 2 extra assists.
Average ice times though Ylonen at 14-15 mins and RHP at 18-21 mins a night
RHP is on ice for less Goals against and used more on special teams .

Ylonen is doing ok but it didnt happen until teams started resting their players and in PIT case against a teams who's injured .
Ylonen isnt a Spark Plug like RHP

Do you watch the Post Game Interviews?
If not next time Gurianov even gets a point listen to him go on about the progress they're making .
He doesnt do that with the rest of the team , Gurianov is the project player for him .
I have a feeling they're going to put Gurianov through some of the same training they have Hutson in terms of Gap Control to avoid being overly physical unless needed.

Would i keep him? No
But i also wouldnt have kept Paul Byron when we first got him either , glad we did though

Gurianov would then refuse the 1.8M and ask for 2.9M instead.

Gurianov is not known for his defensive play.

Probably not.

Like... I would sign him for 1 year and try and trade him at the TDL. Maybe he can score a bunch of goals and some team will make a mistake on him like the Habs did on Hoffman.

Cant trade him for a year after signing him
Its why we got WPG over a barrel with PLD
If they match they commit to no return on PLD and him becoming a UFA right after.

CBA blocks teams from trading players after re-signing them which is why teams do trade and sign deals not sign and trade (which would be much safer )
