SAW IT ON TWITTER - I am not the devious mind behind this.

Basicly KH corners Chevy with an exacto knife and offers him three choices:

1- He accepts this deal;

OR

2- KH and PLD sign a 1 year 6.3M OS in exchange for MTL 2024's first; and MTL's 2024 third

OR

3- Chevy matched the OS, but he can't trade PLD for a year... walking him to FA while getting nothing in return.

Habs better grab their own 2nd in 24 then OS PLD so that the compensation is only a 2nd and not a first, trade the avs 2nd and one of the 4th and a prospect (Norlinder?)
No way habs give up a unprotected 1st in 24 when they know its prob their last year in the bottom 6.

Oh you poor innocent thing. You think hes going to sign a 4 mill offer sheet and then a 7.5 mill long term. If PLD hits UFA think 9, if he's an extension think 8+

Every year there are lots of UFAs available. Jets or Habs don't have to be in a hurry to make a trade at all. Jets wouldn't accept the the "player trade", but the two picks might be good option. The Jets then have over 6m to look for a centre this summer.

now now, if Hughes and PLD agree beforehand that he'll take a hometown discount (those exists btw), Hughes is also gonna compensate if he agrees to a 1year 4mil deal.
Hughes tryna make the Captain the max for contracts, kinda like how Bruins did.

he cant be signed less than 6m as that's the qo so yeah cool concept that just doesn't work not to mention 1 os rarely happen or are effective & 2 they don't have their 2nd rounder in 2024 and Arizona knows it would be needed so they aren't gonna give the 2024 2nd for a 2nds value but most likely a late first if they know they want to os

PLD best bet is sign the QO and trade him as rental. he prob could fetch a 1st, late one at that unlike the florida pick atm that looks like its gonna be a top 16

Mailloux could develop into a top 4 RD, a bit too much of a price imo, maybe Norlinder or Beaudin, not a Mailloux level prospect.
