I'd love getting helly but doesn't make a lot of sense for Detroit to do it

Hellebuyck doesn't fit our timeline. Maybe Jersey or LA.

Nope, Detroit isn't doing that. We'll just take our chances and wait for 24-25 when Helly goes to FA and comes home for the cost of a contract.

Pierre-Luc Dubois is going home to Montreal. And Mark Scheifele isn't waiving and wasting his time with Vancouver. He'll be looking for a cup contending team.

Blake Wheeler has a 5 team trade list, And sorry Seattle isn't one of those 5 teams.

Zero chance of Detroit giving away a 20 year old Sebastian Cossa for a 30 year old Connor Hellebuyck. Cossa is our future. And Hellebuyck is probably going to want 7x7 in his last big payday. If Yzerman wants Hellebuyck and he wants to come home. We can easily sign him as a FA in 2024 and not give up ludicrous assets for him.

I really like JT in Van and no guarantee either Scheifele or PLD stick around. That said, the cap flexibility could be great to have. At the same time, Van is in a constant state of change and I'd rather see JT stick around. I'd be open to Boeser moving but Van would probably want a defenseman in return like DeMelo or Dillon.

At the end of those contracts, Morgan Frost and Filip Gustavsson become free agents; you've bought only one year of free-agency for Gustavsson and none for Frost.

I don't think that Detroit would trade either Cossa (for whom they moved up in the draft) or the first for one year of Hellebuyck. It might be different if he negotiated a contract extension first.
