Murphy isn’t even an upgrade over Jokiharju.

Don't see the Hawks doing this. They probably value Murphy equal to two 2nd's at a minimum. So that's a 1st and two 2nd's for 13 OA in this year's draft. That's gonna be a very good player, but don't think the value is there for the Hawks.

WOW, some one who sees exactly what I see.
Murphy is more physical but he is also 6 years older and nearly double the AVV.
Henri makes mistakes but so do Samuelsson, Power and Dahlin.
With that being said, I would do this trade as Buffalo does need another RHD.

I'm torn on this one. I think Murphy's value is two 2nds. I'm also a bit cautious about the Hawks getting too many 2nds in a draft. KD should probably try to move up with some of his picks.

I guess im just not sure moving from 20 to 13 is that big a jump. After 7-9...it's all a roll of the dice. I'd rather have Murphy to help the development of our LD prospects.

Buffalo should be looking at Boqvist via trade and Severson as a UFA. Murphy shouldn’t enter the equation imo just because of the Sabres timeline.

Boqvist??? I thought BUF needed defense. That's something Boqvist has proven he can't do.

He can drive possession and he played with Dahlin for years

Dahlin has. Agreed. Boqvist...nope. he can't play defense like even a little. He can be a PP puck mover, but he's pretty awful 5v5.

***EDIT*** As a Hawks fan that's been cheering for him to succeed for YEARS... he just can't play Defense. Lacks gap control, physicality, simply effort to move forwards away from the net.

I wish. Same old unfortunately. He jumps up to play offense a lot, but still hasn't learned to play defense like even a little.

You mean the -12 while having ~75% 5v5 OZONE starts??? xGA 79 while xGF ~61 YIKES!

Plus/Minus isn’t a reliable stat to rely on. Especially when you have a rotating cast of Merzy, Hutchinson and Tarasov for most of the year and no left side defenseman to speak of lol.

Sorry I made an edit. Just with CBJ, he's an xGA of 79, but an xGF of ~61. I'm just saying he doesn't play defense and BOTH the eye test and stats back it up. The Relative Corsi is high because he gets a greater OZONE% start than literally ANY other CBJ player and 2nd most for Dmen in the entire NHL behind Krug. CBJ does that strategically because that's how you protect your players from their own faults. If their own management is skewing his play THAT much (most on team and 2nd most among Dmen in the entire NHL)...actions speak louder than words.

With that said...I'm NOT suggesting he can't shoot the puck. I'm NOT suggesting he's an AHLer, but we can't ignore his inability to play defense. He's FAR from the only Dman guilty of this too. Ghost, Barrie, etc... He has offensive skill, but if anything he's gotten worse at being one dimensional. AGAIN, not a terrible thing. Don't pay him more than $3M a year, keep him on the bottom pair, BUT let him run the #1PP unit. That's his wheel house. Anything 5v5 isn't it.
